Frustrating! Hl2 AI works perfectly with the retail SP levels, their saves, and the 1 user level DaRoboss. For all other SP user maps that I have downloaded, they are "AI Disabled". Bought HL2 through Steam....it is a legitimate install and I play through Steam always without any problems. Have tried various suggestions, including the console command "AI_DISABLE" both with and without numbers; the HL2 Enhancer program written by Windows X, and creating "AI_Fix. cfg" files in the HL2 config folder. Nothing has worked. Can anyone help?

Have tried the ai_disable [0,1, and nothing] numerous times. Did a reinstall today. No change.

Thanks for the redirect to the Valve Forums. It took a while, but someone there gave me a clue. I will pass the solution on below in the event that someone else encounters the same problem: Thank all of you for your help, R.$cum gave me a clue. His specific instruction of console commands did not work, but... In my Steam/steamapps/myname/halflife2/hl2/autoexec.cfg, there was an ai_norebuildgraph "1" command. I changed the command to "0", and now everything works!!!! This has been a really daunting mystery and am very surprised nobody else has experienced the same problem. Not sure how the "1" command got there, but will look for it if the same probem recurs. Thanks again, you all...
