Has anyone here had problems with the pheropods in EP1? I found about 3 of them and they didn't come up on 6 as usual sowhy were they there to begin with?
You mean that you can't pick them up and use to command Antlions as in Half-Life 2? In this case anwser is easy, you are not supposed to have them in the game.

Where did you even find them? I thought that a Vortigaunt has to take them from the dead Antlion guard with some powers.

Yeah, that's what I thought.
Yeah, even if you use impulse 101 in the console to get all the possible weapons, the Antlions do not react at all to the pheropods.
I should perhaps have corrected my dumb-assedness some days ago. They were actually cores for the pulse rifle and 'cos of their icon I thought they were pheropods
You could make a map for Episode 1...that makes it so you can command them...its all done in the map...not scripting...well, you can do it with Scripting...but thats a waste of time.
