Directx 0.0 bug with fakefactory -1 reply

I am having trouble getting the latest fakefactory to load. I have what appears to be the Directx 0.0 bug(Hardware Directx Level 0.0 / Software 9.0). I've googled a little bit and found it can be fixed by adding -dxlevel 90 to the startup line, which doesn't work, and I have tried FakeFactory's suggestion of adding DXLevel_V1 with a value of 90 to my registry, which also didn't work. All of my other mods and games work fine. Anyone know what else I should try?

Ah ha ha ha! I had this bug too. Be sure to add a 'DWORD' key to the Registery. It should be Hexidecimal and should have a value of '5a' for DirectX 9, and '50' for DirectX 8.

I know, thats what fakefactory suggested, but adding the dword gave me no love =[ I figured it must of messed up elsewhere too, so I've reinstalled steam and fakefactory too, with no love.

Are you sure you are adding it to the correct Registery Key? Try looking at the Episode 1 DWORD, see what settings it has there, and copy them.

Failing this you can, like I have, copy the contents of the Cinematic Mod v3.0 to C:/Program Files/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/<your username>/half-life 2/hl2 [COLOR=Red] But be warned! Make a backup of the original Half-Life 2 folders FIRST! [COLOR=Black]This should work as it has on mine. It actually works better, as the effects on the G-Man at the beginning don't happen in the stand alone mod.[/COLOR][/COLOR]

Heh, I've gone darwin on this problem, and, looking at the other reg settings for every game/mod installed under steam, have tried every possable random combination ;P But of course, I never thought of simply copying the mod over to HL2, which made it work fine :D Thanks for the help!

No problem. I prefer the Cinematic Mod as a mod, not as a stand-alone mod. Glad you got it sorted.
