Ok, I'm obviously not getting this but i wanted to use FileFront as a download source for a hl2dm server. Basically I'm a cheap SOB and didnt want to pay for a dedictaed webserver/ftp site.

I uploaded my compressed files (bzip2) and wanted to point my download url to this site.

Am I completely off my rocker. Have I confused this site for repository for maps/sounds that could be automatically downloaded?

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid this cannot be done. For a FastDL to be used, the server needs direct download which something filefront doesn't have. FileFront has waiting lines, and all files in the end ends with X6.

Thank you for the reply. I thought I might be trying the impossible.

I've tried pay-for sites(drivehq) and quickly hit my quota (4.6G/month) so now I'm venturing off into making my own fast dl server at home. I'm getting 3M upload speeds pretty consistent. Ran it thru its paces and it worked fine in testing. I refuse to pay a monthly fee for something that I pretty much give away to half life 2 deathmatch players worldwide. I also reject the idea of begging for donations on a server. Lots of folks tell me that a home HTTP server is a bad idea due to (bandwidth and security) but I'm gonna give it a shot anyways :)

Thanks for the info. I'll go ahead and delete my files here so as not to waste space.

If you want my advice, compress the *.bsp files to *.bz2 files with 7zip. It'll smaller the bsp file size a lot, and the bsp file is not required to be on the fastdl server. The FastDL server checks for bz2 files first, then goes on with getting the BSP if a bz2 is not found.

For example, your map is named awesome.bsp, and you'll compress it to bz2 with 7zip, you'll get:

awesome.bsp.bz2

After you've done that, remove the bsp file and leave the bz2 file intact on the FastDL server. You can be assured it'll save you a lot of MB's. I'm doing the same thing.
