Yes, I have the same problem. Originally, after first installing Half-Life 2 on the 26th, the game would load, but wouldnt let me adjust any graphical options other than resolution without it crashing. The game, when it ran, was very jerky and difficult to play. I decided to update my graphics drivers, thinking this might help things. Now, I have the same problem as this person - it won't load. During the screen saying LOADING at the very beginning the game beeps, and then closes. I can't think of how to fix this, so any help would be REALLY appreciated. Thanks a lot.

If we knew your computer specs we might be solve the problem.

I have:

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz 256 MB RAM Windows XP and I have some kind of Intel Extreme Graphics controller or something. I wish I could tell you specifically, but this sort of thing isn't something I'm too knowledgable in.

I'm thinking that the problem is probably relating to the grapics card and possibly something to do with the memory, even though that meets the minimum specs on the back of the Half-Life 2 box. My processor is far greater than the minimum required, and I have plenty of hard disc space.

oh, and technically my graphics card SHOULD be ok, as on the back of the box it says all the game needs is a Direct X 7 level card, which mine most definitely is.

Umm, you NEED to upgrade man. Why why do people play these games with so little memory and crappy vid cards, then complain about performance? No offence, just seems to be atrend of LOW end computers trying to play high end games around here.

You need at least 512 RAM and a decent video CARD. Integrated graphics suck. They are good for surfing porn, though.

Recommended System

2.4 GHz Processor

512MB RAM

DirectX 9 level graphics card

Windows 2000/XP

And that is pushing the minimum in REAL world gaming.

It says that Half-Life 2 can run on low-end machines though, it specifically states that it is not a high-end game. I trust you that you're right with the graphics, I know how bad these intergrated ones can be, but I think Valve are more than a little annoying for saying that it'll work fine when it won't. I more than meet every spec on the Half-Life 2 box, so I was kind of hoping it would work. Half Life 2 Minimum Specs (taken from the box): Windows 2000/XP/ME/98 1.2 GHz Processor 256mb RAM Direct X 7 level graphics card 4.5 GB Hard Disc space Internet Connection It would be nice if they'd tell the truth there.

Yes, I feel your pain and am sorry if I insulted you. Just the sound of intigrated graphics makes me cringe :)

I mean it should actually RUN, but you wouldn't enjoy any good FPS or eye candy :( Seriouisly tho, a decend card and 512 RAM wouldn't run ya much and would boost your computer. Shopp on www.newegg.com Here is a card I have in my other gaming PC: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-281&depa=1 good luck man, I know it can be frustrating, I have ben there.

Only thing I can suggest is re-install the game? Defrag your PC, run spyware. Since you are running latest vid drivers you should be ok there.

Thanks man. Unfortunatly, I haven't got a lot of cash right now, so an upgrade might be out of the question, at least for a couple of months. To be honest, I can live without the eye candy, but I can't get the damn game to run at all anymore. Also, I tried re-installing and running AdAware, but nothing seems to be fixing the problem. Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out to at least get it to work. During the brief period I DID have it working, I had one game of Counterstrike, which ran averagely, as I was expecting. The main Half-Life 2 game didn't though :( If anyone has any more ideas I could try, please feel free to mention them.

You could try to delete youe video drivers and install the ones you had to start with. See if that helps.
