I seem to be having problems with my graphics card. I recently bought and installed an ATI-Radeon 9550 graphics card into my computer. Everything seems to be working properly except for the fact that every time I start up Half-Life 2, It crashes back to my desktop. It hasn't done this before I installed the card though. But the strange thing is that Counter-Strike Source and my other mods such as Dystopia, Garry's Mod and HL2: CTF run fine with the graphical improvements I'd expected from the card. Can anyone help out with this. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes I have updated the drivers. The game reminds you to if they aren't the current version already. I downloaded the drivers and that dialogue box stopped showing. How would I be able to tell if it's being overclocked? The thing is that after the game loads and is supposed to show the animated backround, it crashes. I don't think it's being overclocked though because my old graphics card is 1000 times crappier than my new one in every way and half-life 2 ran pretty well on it (without the good graphics of course), though the graphics card could barely support the graphics requirements for it.

I'm running it in a 1024x768 resolution. I could try running it in the screen resolution it reverted to when I installed the card. If that doesn't work I'll just try more until it works. I'll update this post after I'm finished. EDIT: I've tried every resolution from 800x600 to 1280x1024. Still nothing. Though, I'd like to know if it's possible for someone to edit the game settings for half-life 2 without actually getting into the game. If that is, then maybe I could tinker with the settings and get it to work. If anyone knows how to do this if it is possible, then I would be very thankful.

This is the path to configure your config.... Valve/Steam/SteamApps//Half-life 2/hl2/cfg There should be a config file there open it with notepad and you should be able to tinker along with your settings.

I have looked there already. I didn't see anything about video settings. What I'd like to do is configure the HL2 video setings so I could mess around with those.

See if your files match these, if not reinstall. If they do reinstall anyway.

I finally fixed it. I was messing around with the folders and deleted the HL2 folder out of my Valve/steam/steamapps//Half-Life 2 folder and let the game rebuild it. Apparently something in the old HL2 folder was interfering with the game. Thanks for your help anyway.

You should be able to have all high settings if you have a good comp. otherwise. I have the same card.
