i have a peculiar problem. just bought half life 2. I install the game and register and everything goes smoothly. Next, i click to play half life 2. The game starts loading and i see the Valve intro screen. Next it takes me to the loading screen (it says loading... in the bottom righthand corner). it sits like this for a few minutes then i hear 2 error sounds pop up, as if 2 error messages came up. however i cannot see the 2 error messages and the game does not allow me to minimize in any way. I hit enter whenever i hear these sounds and it brings me back to windows. can anyone help me?? i really want to play this game! here is what my system is: Gateway Pentium 4 @ 3.00 GHz 502 mb RAM 150 gig hard drive Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Video Card with 64mb RAM PS - The really weird part is that counterstrike Source works and can play on my computer, but not half life 2! it is very annoying i want to play it!!!
I had the same problem, turned out to be my firewall. Disabled it. Also it was not actually finished downloading even though it got to that screen. To check, right click on the half-life 2 in the play games window and select properties.

When you do get it running I doubt you will enjoy it with that graphics setup... ouch :( You seriously need a decent video card.
I have the same computer as this guy (gateway 500gr i think) with the same graphics card and I can play cs source with no problem....Im getting a pci express video card anyway.....I also have the same problem so as I heard from the other guy that it is not done downloading when its on that loading screen..so when at night when you are going to sleep is the best time to upload hl2
I have the same problem, but I get the following error message:
"The instruction at 0x241f7c37 referenced memory at 0x00d9f5c0. The memory could not be read."
"Click on Ok to terminate the program."
System Specs:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium M 1.4GHz
480 MB RAM
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller 64MB
Any suggestions?

SP2 = bad. 480 MB RAm = ok, but should be doubled. Intel graphics =
Search the forums for memory issues for switching the stick to another slot.
i have almost the same computer with the same problem, both far cry and hl2 does this to me "cant read memory"
