Hello everybody! I have 2, well 3, problems since the recent updates of HL2.

1. The 1st is a performance issue: the fps decreased significantly after last updates and the game now lost his gameplay pleasure.

2. running the game I get this message: execing valve.rc CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: No such map 'none' map load failed: none not found or invalid ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "AddOns/common/SteamAddOns_italian.txt". --- Missing Vgui material vgui/steam/games/icon_hl2mp --- Missing Vgui material vgui/servers/icon_secure_deny

I uninstalled the game, deleted the install dir, reinstalled and updated it in another dir, but the result is the same.

3. I even get this message:

Initializing renderer... Warning: using WorldTwoTextureBlend on a non-displacement surface (material: nature/blendsandweed005a). Support for this will go away soon.

The IMPORTANT of course (!!) is the question #1 about the performance.

My PC is quite powerful: AMD 3400+ / 1 Gb RAM / ATI Radeon x800 Pro 256 Mb / Win xp pro sp2; I'd rather go back to the previous HL2 release, without the recent updates than suffering of poor performances.

And NOW? Help me please to find again the pleasure to play this game. Thanks again! =:) - Enrico, from Aosta / Italia

Hi Pat, So sorry... but it didn't fix my loss of fps. My ATI Radeon x800 Pro 256 still has many lost frames. I use the * settings at 1024x768 with these startup options -applaunch 220 -heapsize 512000 -novid +map_background none -console and latest drivers from ATI (rel. 5.9). HELP, I begin to be disappointed... :uhm: ANY SUGGESTION? :uhoh: - Enrico

sorry man but thats what fixed it for me. it perfectly fine before? have u tried turnin down ur reflections and stuff? the resolution of the game is what does a real number on my system, but then again i got a FX 5200 wiich is crap lol. but if that dont work the HDR thing might be doin it for ya. try turnin that off. if all that fails then id just try tellin Valve. but be warned they have to go throught all the procedures so theyll make u re-install the game again, download drivers and all the good stuff. if nothin works then sorry man im fresh out of ideas lol. last time my fps dropped in Doom 3 i thought all my drivers were updated but i was wrong. make sure u have the latest drivers again. alright hope this helps.

Well Pat, I set the suggested parameters I always used before having fps probs. Resolution is set to 1024x768, 2x antialias, 4x anisotropic, textures to maximum level, reflection simple, HDR off. I tried to set this string for launching the game: -applaunch 220 -dxlevel 90 -heapsize 512000 -novid +map_background none -console ...but it changes nothing. If I reduce to 800x600 then everything works fine, but it's a false solution since I'd love to play the game as fluently as before at 1024x768). A question: If I uninstall the game and reinstall it... can I block the updates? - Enrico
