Now it started with HL2, Booted the game, loaded a brand new game and it goes to the black screen where it says Half Life 2 and then bam! it crashes to the desktop bring a windows error message with the option to send to microsoft saying some Hl2.exe error. I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam and Hl2 and even deleted the valve folder all together and it still keeps crashing at that exact point. Now DOD:S is a lot different it give a error. (error found Here) I just want to play Half life and Day of defeat again. SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THIS PROBLEM PLEASE HELP!!! :bawl:
anyone?
Woah there! Settle down. First, you use Vista? Many games have Vista problems. Second, try verifying the integrity of your game cache. I always recommend that because I do not know too much about Source and Steam problems. What are your PC specs? The error is familiar, I used to get it with Episode One I think, but it left after a time.
Do you always run that many background programs while playing a game? Also, never expect an answer from this place that quick. It is how the forums run. Sometimes you have to wait a while. If you are new to these forums, welcome, welcome to City 17. Oh, wait, this isn't City 17. But we talk about it here. Welcome to the Half-Life Forums, if you are new.
Noooo Vista here.

How do you verify the integrity of the game cache?
In steam, right-click the game > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game cache
I have the a similar problem except that Half-Life 2 and Half-Life Source work perfect. The problem is any other game crashed when launching. My system specs: Asus P5K Motherboard Core 2 Duo E6600 2 GB DDR2 800 RAM NVIDIA 8500 GT/w 158.45 beta drivers, Also tried 158.24 official drivers
