HL2 Freezes When Loading Main Menu! I have verified that all content is downloaded through steam, I have even used the verification links provided by steampowered.com and verified steam cache files and HL2 source. It says 100% ready to play. (Keep in mind i bought it on disc retail...if that matters any) I'm stumped. Here are machine specs. Pent 4 2.4Ghz (Verified with Prime95 and CPU Burn) IS7 Abit MB (Even updated the BIOS to latest revision) ATI 9800 Pro (tried Latest Certified AND Beta Drivers) SB Live 5.1 Digital (and yes the IS7 On-Board Sound is DISABLED) 512 DDR (Used memtextx86 to test and verify) 80GB Western Digital HD (Verified with Tests in WDDiag) All it does is displasy the loading screen...the HD has some activity, then the drive clicks , cursor disapears and everything stops, a hard reboot is required to do anything. Main menu ALMOST loaded one time, but froze right as the animations started. ANY Help would be much appreciated. -JW

Hey, yea same here... only i'm on a laptop. I've tried to look for drivers for video card [ati mobility radeon 9000 dell] with no luck. I can run other games ie cnd zero, hl1, and even play dvd's etc. It seems that i cannot play any "source" games either. I've tried CSS and HL1 source with no luck. WIth CSS i get to loading screen and screen goes blank but does not freeze my cpu. i can see and move the mouse and I hear the noises as if i was moving across menu items. I have also tried uninstalling and such with no luck either. Please help. specs dell inspiron 600m 1.5ghz processor ati mobility radeon 9000 768 ram 30g hd

More info. When i do attempt to run hl2, i get this blue screen that flashes a bunch of info to fast. Probably stating what happen. On restart i get a "send this to microsoft thing"... the problem states that it was my display drivers fault and/or video card that caused the problem. szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 10024C6602011E1028 szModName : ati2dvag.dll szModVer : 6.13.10.6279 Offset : B73806EA That is the technical report that was displayed in the error message upon restart. Hope this helps. 2Hyper:mad:

here is what you do!!!!

+map_background none+snd_async_prefetch_priority 1 -gl +mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0

put that in your launch options....but before you play it go into your valve folder-steam apps- "username" half life 2 folder and the save folder and there are two save thingys darken them then right click and click on read only(that is disabling autosave if it crashes when it autosaves) and then you can play the game!!! thats what really worked for me.....

To go to the Launch Options, open up Steam, then go to play games, then RIGHT click on HL2, the go to Properties, then Launch Options and enter in what the guy said to enter. I looked in the SAVE folder like he said but there wasn't anything in there. I havent tried to see if it works but I will let you know. Brandon
