Holdenits at 64%. it goes up slowly but surely. reffering to whoever is above me.

So do you mean that just by leaving Steam running on my computer that it will update itself? It got to 64% by the regular install thing. After it loaded and installed HL2 on my computer, and let me launch it, I was at 64%. I turned the automatic updates off and restarted it, then turn them on and restarted it, and Steam did an update, that bumped it up to 85%. However, I've tried to repeat this process several times but it won't have the same effect. However, I'll just try leaving Steam running in the background of my computer and check it after I leave it running for about 9 hours.

Yeah it just takes a while, just leave it alone.

NOTE: Take your screensaver off so the desktop is always on. It seems when the SS goes on it pervents Steam from updating.

Thanks Holden. I did that it updated itself with in just an hour or so. The main issue was that I didn't know that it was updating without me telling it to update. Steam never mentioned that it was updating the game, it was just that I saw the percent moving up once. It was kinda hard to put 2 and 2 together on this one.

Thanks everyone.

I know I'm ressurecting a dead thread, but I need this question answered. I have the exact same problem as the guy above me. I have tried running it in - console mode, but it just freezes faster. I literally move my mouse seconds before it locks up the entire compy. I have to hard reset after that. My specs are: Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 512 MB DDR RAM Radeon 9600XT w/ 128 MB VRAM Windows XP Pro Seriously, I've been told how awesome this game is and I'm getting way frustrated. Help.

Guys, I have a very different problem ... The game loads fine ... though the problem of zombie people was there at first, but the ai_disable 0 helped. The main problem I have is, that the game simply quits out ... saying "Connection to steam servers lost" ... even though I may not even have connected to the internet. It also gives an error ... something of the sort that hl2.exe caused an error since reference memory bla bla was bla bla or whatever. What gibbs? D
