Hi everyone, Episode 1 won't work on DirectX level 9. The problem seems to be with the way the bloom and HDR work on that level. My PC (see signature) is more than capable of running Episode 1 on High, including HDR enabled, but Episode 1 just won't run. Even if I turn everything down to low it still crashes. When it crashes the picture freezes and the sounds loop over. I've gone to Valve about this problem and they got me running the game successfully on DirectX level 8. However, I know my PC should be able to run it on DirectX level 9, and level 8 means I can't have rim lighting or anything HDR. Funny thing is, the bloom is fine on DirectX level 8. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and knows how to fix it, or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Bump :p I'm preety sure It could be your video card overheating, I know that ATI cards breakdown really fast. Do you have a spare video card you can use?

I've checked the temperature, it stays around 40 degrees.

Eh? I have no other graphics card (except for my old Matrox G400 that could barely run Rayman 2). But I am getting the X1900 XTX, as I'm sure you're all aware by now, maybe that will sort it. I'll know by the end of September.

lol Rayman 2 I used to play that on PSone :p okay well try diffrent ATI drivers for now... BTW X1900 XTX's are loud as hell many ppl cannot stand it. I acutually love hearing it! If you don't like loud commponets than I strongly recommed you gettting a X1950XTX/7950 GTX instead. ;)

I don't care. The main thing is the POWER! Crank the volume up to full I say!

And by the way, Rayman 2 on PS1 was not the same as PC. Less levels.

Dude, have you tried switching the drivers? You're going to love that X1900XTX that thing could play Epsiode 1 at 1600*1200 Highest game settings 6xAA 16 AF and FPS were well above 60 FPS :p I'd recommed you getting a bit more ram to back up a video card with such power.

Yes, I have tried switching the drivers, but to no end.

And yes, I know it will run it maxed out, my current one can almost if it weren't for this problem. And I am getting another 1GB of RAM as well anyway, bringing it to a grand total of 2048MB RAM. Thanks for the advice Videoslave.

Well, your all set for a kick ass pc! ;) Hopfully when your new card arrives you could play Epsiode 1. Can you play other games with HDR? Or its just Epsiode 1?
