I am having the same problem. In order to play the game though, I plugged in some headphones and that seems to work... I would like to use my speakers though....

Hey guys,

I have also been having problems with sounds, loud crack noises occurring maybe 2 or 3 times per minute. I have a Creative Audigy 2 (running out through rubbishy desktop speakers - which aren't the problem, have checked with headphones.) It is not a retail version but an OEM one, so maybe install is incorrect, but it is fine with other games. Will keep eyes peeled for solution.

This is a problem that is plaguing many hl2 and css players. It is referred to as "audio stuttering" in many of the steampowered.com forums. Many people are experiencing it, and many people said that it happened during the beta as well. From the many threads I have read about it, a lot of people think that it is the engine itself. It happens on many different sound cards, from turtle beach, to sound blasters (all), to onboards like nvidia, and others. There are so many different rigs having the same problem that it really can't be specifically a hardware issue. Also, many think that it is strictly an autosave issue, but as someone points out, it does it in css which doesn't have autosave, and at G-man's beginning speach in HL2, it does it as well. There are numerous proposed fixes, and none of them totally remedy the problem as of yet. Valve has yet to acknowledge the issue, but so many people are experiencing it that it is only a matter of time that they will have to do something like release a PATCH. It doesn't do it to bad to me when I am playing css, but it does it pretty bad on HL2 from time to time. So we'll see. keep checking the forums at steampowered for a post eventually. This sucks, and a lot of people are pissed and in the same boat. I know that I don't enjoy the game when its not smooth. But when it runs, man is it awesome! CSS is sweet too. Keep hoping for a patch! kmart
