Hey guys, I'm having trouble with HL2's water. For some reason my water looks like this: http://gearmedia.ign.com/gear/image/article/567/567437/half-life-2-directx-comparison-20041118033958070.jpg

Now, the site labels that as using the DirectX 7 path. I have a Geforce3 Ti200 with DirectX 9.0c installed. And yes I'm using the latest drivers. My hardware is DX8 so shouldn't it look like this??

No matter what options or cvars I fiddle with, my water doesn't change. Any idea what could be wrong? Have any of you played HL2 with a Geforce3? Any help is much appreciated...as long as it's not the usual snooty "You need to buy a new card" comments. There are those of us who have our reasons.

Try reinstalling the game.

Your card may support it. but it may be slowing your game down too much and Hl2 limits you to the Dx 7 mode.

Yeah, I found out a lot since I posted here. It's either Valve's or NVIDIA's fault that the game forces GF3s to use DX7. Look what I was able to do using the 30.82 Detonators:

It's not fair though. I was able to run Far Cry with pixel shaded water at a decent framerate. Oh well. I wouldn't mind the DX7 water so much if only it wasn't so transparent. It's silly being able to see through the water and then when you dive in it, the water fog blocks your view.
