It's used for people who want to post some PHP coding (without it being parsed, atleast parts of it since obviously the forum won't execute HTML/PHP coding for security matters), mostly used in the tech discussion forum.

PHP is a coding language (like HTML) to code (create) websites like this one.

They made these HTML/PHP/other codes/ fields so people can post their code in there so it's easier to read and to make sure some codes won't be read by the forum as forum codes. Examples of forum codes are [b ] to make something bold, for images etc. Now you wouldn't want these codes to be "executed" so that text becomes bold. You would want t show people the code.

Example: If I want to show you how to make bold text I could write:

1) This is bold text <- See, you can't see the actual code. 2)
[ b] This is bold text
<- Now you can see the code.

Hah! And I'm all sharing it with myself! I'm mine! Mine!
