When JA+ first came out for Jedi Academy I was very excited. It was one of the first admin mods that incorperated kick. However, as the new versions began to come out I began to notice a disturbing trend.

No longer were changes being made just to the admin system, but to gameplay itself. The first time I noticed this was in version 1.9, it seemed to me the hit detect was off by a tad. I stuck with 1.8 because I believed it to be a bug. With the emergence of 2.0-2.2 I have seen this continue. The gameplay keeps being altered more and more in each version. I am not talking about toggleable things either, the basic game is being changed.

While many people may not object to this I have noticed that in 2.2 especally using a single stance yellow fan is the most effective way to win a fight. Instead of having to juggle between stances trying to beat your opponent in a battle of skill, judging what attack would be the most favorable, the game has been reduced to yellow spam.

Instead of the smooth flow of the regular game JA+ feels as though you are emerged in a vat of jelly, all fluidity to the game has been removed. And of course, this is the most popular mod, do we really want the game to be dumbed down for us?

Give xmod2 a try. It fixes saber hit-detection so your saber doesn't go through people, causing no damage. You can control the amount of Force required and used for katas and special saber moves.

try going to the JA+ official site, not just bashing it, but making suggestions, like make it so you do have to switch stances to win and stuff, he listens, i have made several suggestions, and he has added things, http://japlus.fragism.com/index2.php

JA+ can be altered completely, if you dont know what cmd will change it to what, ask, there is more gameplay change cause not a lot of people go there and give their thoughts against it, or dont post, they just start saying, oh, JA+ stinks, go there and give reasons, not just saying JA+ is the worst, this is better, when you flame it too much, you will get banned, so just make suggestions

Don't you get it? The whole problem is slider has incorporated too many dumb "suggestions" (as well as copying every innovative feature of every other mod that he knows how to) so now his mod is a trash can full of too many features, with no judgement or appreciation of the balances the original programmers put into the game. Do you really think the programmers at Raven didn't know how to add all that stuff to the multiplayer game? Do you think, maybe, perhaps, there was a reason they didn't take unbalancing things from the single-player game (like jetpacks) and put them in the multiplayer game? Maybe that's why they work for a game company and slider doesn't: they actually have some appreciation for and judgement as to what features in a game make for good, balanced game play, instead of just throwing everything they can into an unbalanced mess of a mod.

as to that, why do you think slider put that in there, cause some people like it, some dont, you can set it to how you want on your own server, i have read through all the files that come with JA+ and have asked on how to change things, and he will give you the cmd to change it, he listens to ideas, yes, but also makes them able to be turned off, he gives more options for people, if you really want something a certain way, put it that way on your server, or find one that fits what you want, there are all different types

Shadow, it isn't an option to be toggled on or off. The way that it was coded is fundementally flawed and different from the base game. The hit detection has been set up in a way that is quite different from the standard game. Not to mention all of the issues that you encounter when playing with those who have clientside.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time explaining this to someone who is incapable of understanding it.

You keep saying "you can turn it off" or "you can set it to basejka". Open your eyes. People DON'T turn off stuff that unbalances the game, like grapplehooks and jetpacks. Instead of leaving g_forceregentime 200 (default), they set it to 0 (slider's "default" value in his server.cfg file). When Raven introduced kata's, they made them use Force so they wouldn't be spammed. They designed that balancing factor in to prevent overuse of katas. They (foolishly) assumed that people would use the default Force regeneration setting so it would take awhile for enough Force to recharge before you could kata again. But with g_forceregentime 0, you can spam katas. So what does slider do, he adds ANOTHER cvar to keep people from doing katas at all. But if people hadn't been messing around with Force regeneration time in the first place, there wouldn't even be a kata spamming "problem" to "fix" with another cvar. :rolleyes:

People ALREADY have too much ability to screw up the game with dumb server settings, destroying the balances that the REAL game programmers put into it. slider just makes it 10x worse with his mod.

Don't you see, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "JEDI ACADEMY" ANYMORE. There is no standardization because slider's mod allows people to reconfigure it until it's unrecognizable. You never know what to expect when you go to a JA+ server. Are katas on or off? Jetpacks? Grapples? How have the saber damages been messed with? How about saber blocking?

Too much ability to mess up and unbalance the game is NOT a good thing. And please don't say "well you don't have to change anything, you can leave it basejka". That's not what people do. And what's the point of using the mod then?

not a lot of people do, so, why not get a server and set it how you want, and play there? you cant afford a server, go to basejka server, you probably wont convince people to turn everything off,so i dont see the point of just bashing JA+ it is very pointless, most servers are JA+ and more are being added every day, JA+ allows you to change things around, i play at a JA+ server that changes mods every once in a while to mix it up, the owner keeps JA+ interesting cause it can be changed, it is not hard to edit a few files a bit to make it how you want
