That's it. Honor crap = less players

And by 'players', we DON'T mean the silly RPing/honor noobs who think it's cool to do emotes in an FPS game.

I think people are getting a bit obsessed with the "Its an FPS dont RP, go to an RPG game"

My counter to the argument would be - Kotor is Singleplayer, Starwars galaxies, hell, just play that for 1 month and come back. you'll shutup then. I gaurentee it. The game has thousands of jedi running around during the timeline that none exsist, there are far too many people with names like Gorge boosh and look skywacker running around. Roleplaying is far to rare, and if you join one of the RP guilds - First you have to grind your eyes out until you have a template that matches what character you actually want in this starwars world, second most roleplaying is disrupted by the THOUSANDS that dont roleplay whatsover.

Also, were i the owner of an RPG server, i would be absolutely p'd at this post. I would be saying "I OWN this server, what RIGHT do you have to tell me what I do on MY server. if i wanted to sleep everyone who joined that would be my right. people would just stop coming. You paid for the game and you want it the "way i think the developers wanted it to be played because i can read the minds of all developers"? well fine, Go to another server."

Realize that RP'ers are very limited in where they can roleplay. SWG is an RPG in the way the game was designed. Turn based/skill based action. Jedi knight is an FPS in the way the game was designed for real-time first or third person action with several weapons and newly developed saber-fighting system. We know how the game's engine's worked. And yet, these games - ALL games, can be played in many, many different ways. An obvious example being SWG is full of people who cant even spell Role-play and Jedi Academy has plenty of people who like to roleplay.

Chat - another subject, while the main focus of this topic is why is their RP'ing in Jedi Academy (a topic often veered off of, going onto anti-lame servers, which is not the same as an RP server mind you)

The owners of said server have the right to instate rules to create a less Chaotic situation within their server. To fight only others willing to fight keeps the action respectful and on a comptetive level, the scores would be Actual, instead of a bunch of points from slaughtering those AFK, unarmed, Chatting , etc. etc.

Admin Abuse - Its a bad thing, but it should be more bad for them than it is for you. The only thing that should happen is that you should stop going to that admin's server (or if he's just a bad apple on a generally good server, just report him) which is bad for him. If you sit there (or sleep there) and just take it, thats your problem. If the server is generally a good server and you dont want to, like i said, report him. If there are no good admin's or he's the only admin, i doubt its generally a good server.

Mods - lets keep this simple, Raven wanted mods, Raven helped make mods - i have even spoken with raven developers (though long ago, during the Asteroids Era) and i can say, including one's with admin power's, the Developers do like mods in this game.

I wanted to hold my tounge on this one, but i just couldnt the deeper into this threat i got. Just couldnt Sit by. I've lead several clans, 7 years of leading, and i know that Rules are needed at times. And, come on people, lets admit it. No matter how much you want to believe it, JA could never be popular for being an FPS - the RP community or Saber-only community constantly Adds to this game. There are plenty of much better shooter games out there, its this community you so hate that keeps this game noticeable.

RP'ers are not killing this game. Honor people are not killing this game. Competitors are not killing this game. Purists are not killing this game - The Pointless arguing at eachother Is. i do not hate purists for wanted to play the game in its original form, but i do hate the purists for wanting to stop those who dont want to play it in in original form. We need to learn to accept eachother, or THAT Bickering is the very thing that will kill JA and any possible future addition.

Captain Molder - Signing off

So? Does that give them the right to RP in an FPS game? Like I said, a minority would be harmless, and left alone. But look at the state of JA... majority of them are RP/honor servers.

So? You own a server, big deal. Your rules would merely be the same as 99% of the other servers, which contains 'no fragging'. You're merely adding to the already huge number of servers with that 'saber down=peace' nonsense. Sure, it's your right, but you're driving off players who bought JA to play an FPS game. And they can't 'go find another server', 'cause the other servers are about the same as yours!

Also, we don't read the mind of the developers, we use common sense. Read the rules on the loading screen whenever you join a server: 'Rules: Kill your opponents to score points!'

well fine, Go to another server."

Go to another server? How to do that when majority of them aren't 'real' servers?

Realize that RP'ers are very limited in where they can roleplay. SWG is an RPG in the way the game was designed. Turn based/skill based action. Jedi knight is an FPS in the way the game was designed for real-time first or third person action with several weapons and newly developed saber-fighting system. We know how the game's engine's worked. And yet, these games - ALL games, can be played in many, many different ways. An obvious example being SWG is full of people who cant even spell Role-play and Jedi Academy has plenty of people who like to roleplay.

Hmm, I agree with you 'RP'ers are very limited in where they can roleplay'. I'm also of the view that every game can be played in different ways, to an extent. For example, I personally like grip kicks being implemented in mods 'cause there's an additional style of fighting. However, if games are played to a point where they switched from an FPS to RPG game, or vice versa, that is so very wrong. That would defeat the purpose of that particular game, and hence the game wouldn't be as popular. Just think, people who first bought JA without playing JO in the first place, would be under the impression that it's an FPS game. Then, when they start playing, they realise that it's not the case, since majority of the servers are about RPing/honor. That's it then, 50 bucks wasted. They bought JA expecting it to be an FPS game, when in fact it's more like a 3D chatroom.

Chat - another subject, while the main focus of this topic is why is their RP'ing in Jedi Academy (a topic often veered off of, going onto anti-lame servers, which is not the same as an RP server mind you)

I tend to group RP and honor people together because 1) they like chatting 2) they don't really FFA in an FFA server 3) they HATE being killed when saber's down/chatting.

The owners of said server have the right to instate rules to create a less Chaotic situation within their server. To fight only others willing to fight keeps the action respectful and on a comptetive level, the scores would be Actual, instead of a bunch of points from slaughtering those AFK, unarmed, Chatting , etc. etc.

Chaotic? LOL, isn't that what FFA in an FPS game is supposed to be?

Besides, since they aren't willing to fight, WTF did they buy an FPS game for? :uhm:

Admin Abuse - Its a bad thing, but it should be more bad for them than it is for you. The only thing that should happen is that you should stop going to that admin's server (or if he's just a bad apple on a generally good server, just report him) which is bad for him. If you sit there (or sleep there) and just take it, thats your problem. If the server is generally a good server and you dont want to, like i said, report him. If there are no good admin's or he's the only admin, i doubt its generally a good server.

Hmm, I don't know about you, but many of the servers I went to had admin abusers. Either that, or I was very unlucky. Of course, I play JA once every few months now, so I wouldn't know.

Mods - lets keep this simple, Raven wanted mods, Raven helped make mods - i have even spoken with raven developers (though long ago, during the Asteroids Era) and i can say, including one's with admin power's, the Developers do like mods in this game.

I dunno about this, so I'll just take your word for it.

Agreed. Although, JA had the potential to be one of the best FPS games every made. Not only it has guns(normal in FPS games), it also has sabers and force, thus making FFA interesting if all 3 were enabled.

Uhh, RP'ers and honor people ARE killing the game. Because of their 'RIGHT' to set up servers which have the ridiculous 'no laming' rules, so when players who bought an FPS game tried to play, they're constantly being kicked/amabused. This process will be repeated in other servers over and over again, and eventually the player would get so fed up that he'd either uninstall, or conform to the community, which kills the game.

I would put it like this: The ones that create a game, have some purpose in their minds (like making it dedicated or flexible into multiple modes/types of playing the game (roleplaying/battleing). Now im taking the example of RP'ing here. But players CAN find elements of the game better for RP'ing. Let's just say you want to run an RP server, and you do it in an RPG dedicated game, it could turn out worse than in Jedi Academy, why? Because: 1.: The Game is more limited than Jedi Academy (example's would be: MODS/models/maps, this does not apply to ALL RPG dedicated games, even the ability to jump could add a whole new level since your capable of reaching new places in different ways.). 2.: Everyone can customize the character the way he wants to, without getting one major disadvantage/advantage. They are all quite balanced except for their personal skill in the game. At least there aren't any lvl 100 Jedi Master's or w/e p00ning the fuck out of others with their lvl 100 Ultra Blaze Lightning Disruptor insta-kill wave. Switching over my general idea: But this is how I feel: The one that HOSTS, is the master of the server. (exception would be if someone pays the host to let him be his server, in that case the client who pays should get in charge) The one he makes admin, is the sub-master, but the host his/her word stays final. The ones that join the server, should obey the HOST, if they don't like an RP server, don't go in there. If Rp'ers dont like a FFA server, they dont go in there. If you don't like or never saw a type of server, feel free to go in there. But be ready to face consequences if you misbehave according to them. If you for example went into an RPG server, and you got banned immediatly for having a wrong name, dont overreact. Its an RPG server, lame admins, FUCK them. Just go somewhere else, IT's THEIR server, THEIR rules, IF THEY think: let's make an RPG server for everyone, It's still THEIR property. EVEN if the people that join their community are the force behind its popularity, it's still THEIR PROPERTY, THEY Decide what happens to it, if they want to ban everyone for EVERY SMALL thing they do, so be it. * And don't give me that BS like: But EVERY SERVER like that does that, even if it's true, go host yourself. *BUT LIKE I GOT ROUTERS 0mfG!* Look on google, EVERY router is customizeable. Even if the CREATORS of Jedi Academy say that people with a ADSL system like me can't host, I still was able to. *The game has a specific way of playing it was made for, BUT on a server your going onto someone's property, where you have to adapt to his way of playing, unless he doesn't mind your own. And if getting killed in a game affects you mentally or physical? Mentally maybe: If your like the dude that is going for the highest score but he just HAS to leave for a bit, going to spectator messes up his score, he can get PISSED AS FUCKING HELL. And people should be allowed to scream LAMER OMFG FUCKING LAMER all around the server, its their opinion, the server has final word, fuck that dude that said lamer then. In any case, there are also people like me, who remain unaffected by games. (Mentally in the case of: getting lamed and getting PISSED OFF behind the computer and smashing my house to pieces, or just someone annoying me in game or in a discussion) however, 90% of the people I know are, just learn to deal with your emotions. If they lame you, deal with it, no reason to get pissed off in real-life, and I've seen some that said *I don't get pissed off in games blablabla who cares its just a game* that went agitated because someone ACROSS THE WHOLE WORLD, THAT ONLY KNOWS YOUR NAME IS 0mega or something, TRIES TO CONVINCE YOU OR CUSS TO YOU. Liek WTF? My way of going is that I can experience the fun in the game, that's all, if someone lames me I can go say: OMFG YOU FUCKING LAMER PRICK FUCK FUCK FUUCCKKK But in reality: I wouldn't be mad. But there's just no fucking reason to get fucking annoyed by someone across the WHOLE FUCKING INTERNET (Not-agitated, when I got my webcam I'll make logs and you'll see me, not getting mad or pissed off while writing (since most wont believe me heheh) ) In any case: Don't go where you don't want to be, If you do: Face the consequences. Go where you want to be, If you do: Face the consequences. PS: IT is a fact that there are players that are skilled that they would even own every single player in the server (10 vs 1?) while being /ampunished (just a exaggerating example lol). That aren't fat nerds. WHY do most people call people that are different, nerds. If you have a hairstyle that is different from what the rich and famous say that is cool, your different, and if its WAY TOO different, your a nerd. If you play too much on a computer, your a nerd. HELL, even wearing glasses can make you accused of being a nerd. Well what about a kid you called a fucking noob fat ugly nerd that comes to your house, may be fat or not, but does know his moves And smashes your nose, breaks your neck, does a triple-roundhouse like kick and breaks your back and legs. Heh, then suddenly everyone is silent about being a nerd, since now they know that the nerd 'bites back'. and then they go like OMFG? Just wondering bout that.

The immaturity that's developed in this thread is unbelievable. Here's some advice: If you don't like RPGing then don't. If you want to play the game the "normal" way, go to a good server that frequently DOES that; or make your own. It's not that difficult to understand there's always going to be two groups of people: "Lamers" or players who follow the instruction booklet and there'll always be RPGers who make their own rules. Just accept that it's part of the culture that's developed from this game.

Well, yes and no. I hate the whole honor system. Turn your back to me and you'll get killed. I havn't been to a role playing server, but I would hate it. However, chocking someone with force and typing in "Now do you see my power, weakling?" I find ok. If someone gets an Obi-Wan model (Although My Darth Vadar model only works on Solo Game) and someone else gets an Anakin model, if between fighting (eg, looking and stuff) they do some calls to each other, fine. But if they start walking around and acting like that I am not fine with. I am also ok with defending other players and stuff. Basically, if it is just through speaking for kicks I am cool with it. "You must bow down to my new order!" is something I would probably say, but get any further than that and I am leaving the server.

Didn't you read the thread? =/ Finding a 'normal' server is very difficult, and even if you do find one, it'd be empty most of the time, due to majority of the community being on the honor/RPGing side.

Make a server? Bah, most people, including me, don't know how to make a server. We bought this game to play FPS, not to be FORCED to make a server just because we couldn't find enough servers that cater to the orginal rules of this game. Also, creating a 24/7 server requires money, and I, a 16 year old, don't have enough money with me currently, and don't know how to pay through the net.

Boo hoo. That's really very touching... you're blaming RPGers on the fact that you don't have a job, refuse to ask for assistance in forming a server, and/or you can't find a server. Seriously... quite sad. I can't believe you all care enough to argue about this. Don't you all have hobbies or something, or is Jedi Academy the be all and the end all of your entertainment?

My opinion on RPG servers is they are boring and pointless. you sit aroud and talk, do very little fighting and the likely hood of getting kicked out of one more a mistake is very high. for this reson I got rid of the 1.1 patch. In 1.0 there is no RPG servers. and for thoughs who dont like the "honor code" (I know your out there) there a servers who dont use it. My point is... if your sick off RPG servers try going back to 1.0. If you ask me its much more fun than sitting on your ass doing nothing.

I havn't got 1.1. The only god server I have ever played in, really, is the one with the constant war against bots. That's fun.
