I like maps to look as professional as possible. I don't want to look at a map and can easily tell that it was user-created. That's why I'm not that fond of maps that have names such as Bob's ffa_ds2 when I'd rather that it simply be called Death Star II.

Why? Cause normal is boring.

That kind of skill takes time to develop. You can't expect someone who started mapping 2 months ago to release projects of professional quality, the world just doesn't work that way. Practice is what makes perfect, not sheer willpower.

I was mainly talking about in the level select screen.

Agree on this. But then too many of the professional looking maps forget that they're supposed to be playable too, and have horrible FPS, or are just far too big or poorly laid out. I mean, I'm all for a map that recreates movie locations, but most of the movie locations are HUGE, while re-creating the WHOLE thing obviously takes a lot of skill, knowing when to do only select parts, separate maps or take artistic liberties in layout (e.g move things around so you can fit things in even if it's not as accurate that way), that's something that is actually dead easy, but lacking a lot of the time.

That and the number of maps which require you to press use to open doors and activate lifts, I dunno, that one just really annoys me, along with maps that say they have bot support and all the bots just run into one corner and jump on top of each other.

Still, after going through a crap-load of maps I've found a few damned good ones, and am slowly working on my own, question is if I can keep patient enough to finish it and not get distracted before we see if it's any good :)

That doesn't bother me as much as having a bunch of doors and you're not sure whether they're locked or unlocked. I hate it when I first try a map and spend all this time going up to every single door seeing if it opens and then pressing Use to see if that opens it only to have most if not all of them locked. Seriously, if you're going to have 'scenic doors' make it so you can easily tell them apart from the real doors. If not, at least have all of the doors lead somewhere even if it's a 1x1 room with an instant health pack.

"Midgar wasn't built in a day."

Although I do agree about the level select screen. I would rather see a screenshot or two of the actual level and descriptive titles rather than a random logo/google image and a filename (the former happening alot when it comes to Final Fantasy themed maps).

Yeah, that was another point I was thinking of bringing up.

Another thing I don't like are fires that don't burn and lightsabers that work underwater (although I believe the latter is unpreventable).
