I really want to learn how to model/map but which one is harder?
it all depends on who u ask, for me, modeling is harded, mapping is very very easy, it wasnt at first, but now it is, i tryied modeling once but gave up, i am sure if i continued, it would be easy, but u really dont know till u try...
plus maybe this should be on the modding & editing forum an dnot this one..

It also depends on the quality of your work and your skill level. The level of difficulty for good quality mapping and modelling is probably about even.
I guess you're both right, because I know that Kahn is really good at mapping and you Inyri, are really good with modeling weapons. So I guess its really a point of view kind of thing.
i think mapping is the easiest thing to learn.. yea, that was meanless to say ,couse it is, like ya said, a point of view. but if you mean detailed playermodelling, texturing and rigging, then.. the most advanced mapping is easier..
and if u start with mapping, find it easy, maybe u will find modeling easy too... one might help you understand the other too...
Kahn can you send me a tutorial on how to map?
All you have to do is look for a tutorial off yahoo, there are plenty of them. I mean Doom3 even has a video tutorial.
depends what you're trying to make. obviously a square room cant be all that hard ;) but then again obviously a square car with square wheels aint that hard either? you can actually model in gtk rad, to a certain extent so i guess mapping helps with both in certain respects. difficulty in mapping can be as easy or hard as you want - scripting for example, can be a bitch and isnt very well documented, and complex entity layouts e.t.c can get boring lol. i guess theres more to mapping, but you can afford to be less precise as people don't tend to criticise map detail like you would a mode, for obvious reasons lol. theres usually much more to look at in a map than a model.
I think both are rather easy for me, but then that's because I think in 3D a bit better than 2D. Good skinning is hard, and I mean a real skin, and not just a recolor. Both modeling and mapping have their fun, technical terms, so if you want to learn, you're going to need to be willing to dedicate yourself to one or the other.
