Greetings. I am new to the online multiplayer area of the game and I am getting absolutely slaughtered. I have gone over the suggestions in one of the other threads about attacks/defends and courtesy. Im not looking to dominate, just be a courteous and competitive player. I am getting hit with moves that seem to kill me every time, regardless of my health/shield numbers. What's worse, I can't seem to do ANY of the moves I am seeing done to me. Here's where I see... An attack that starts off in a crouching position, then a perfectly aimed jump downward slice that instantly wipes me out (even if I move out of the way), then the attacker seems to crouch down and spring back up. What is this move and how is it done? Some kind of move that allows the characters to move faster than running or jumping allows. They look like they are hovering just above the ground and just seem to skip and float at high speed. I can't catch them. A few more, but these are the basics. I can't reproduce these moves and the ones I read in the Dueling Tactics thread don't seem to matter because I keep getting wiped out when I even get close to an opponent. I know I'm new, but the "bots" on the practice games don't do these things and I can't do it to them. Am I THAT bad starting off, or is there a trick to what is being done here? Thanks.

M

The manuall is not there just to look pretty. Go read it, it'll teach you the moves.

my friend, the first one is called a Red DFA. to do it,press jump, forward and *HOLD* the primary attack button/key/mouse button. the second one is called a Blue Lunge. just hold crouch, move forward and press attack. the third and final move is the Yellow DFA. its just like the red dfa, only press the attack button. it will only be used when your near a person,so it doesnt always work.

did that help? just ask people if it didnt. they arent gunna laugh and say newbie,I should know. I asked how some dude did the Red DFA when I was a wee little newbie. and he said what i told you, just press jump forward and hold attack. it was really easy. I do hope you'll become a good player in your own right one day, adios my friend!

*whistles and then teleports out*

Most helpfull. It looks like I need some practice with those moves. I can't seem to nail it, but its just a question of timing. Thanks for the help.

Maybe you have a high ping, that might be the reason why the attacker kills you even if you move.

Prof. Moriarty Some kind of move that allows the characters to move faster than running or jumping allows. They look like they are hovering just above the ground and just seem to skip and float at high speed. I can't catch them.

What you are describing is called "strafe jumping". It is part of Quake III engine games including Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. It allows strafe jumpers to move faster without Force Speed than a non-strafe jumper can with Force Speed. Combining strafe jumping with Force Speed makes you hard to hit and hard to catch. Your competence at strafe jumping is a measure of your "eliteness" among serious CTF and TFFA players, although it is useful in all game types, even Full-Force dueling. Among elite CTF players, can't strafe jump = noob.

Here is a basic tutorial to get you started, you can also search Google for others

http://clannpo.fragwhore.com/strafejumping.htm

You can download videos such as "oEnt" from www.own-age.com that demonstrate strafe jumping players in action, or if you have Jedi Academy you can come to my CTF server 67.15.23.242 in the evenings and spectate the top scoring flag-carriers to see some expert strafe jumpers.
