i dislike seeing people write in forums that nobody plays SP. I do. tbh if the community payed more attention to SP, the community wouldnt shrink as much. most people probably play SP before they try mp. the less content there is for SP the less likely someone is going to get interested in the game and thus want to try mp. sp is how newer players get into JKo/a. so if you want fresh blood, sp is your ticket. just because they arent as vocal on the forums, doesnt mean there´s no sp enthusiasts out there, you just havent heard anything from them.
i never played multiplayer. it seems that every server/clan uses different mods which makes for different gameplay. on one side thats good for variety on the other there´s less consistency and uniformality. but thats just from my perspective. i never played mp, i dont even know how to log on a server or what to do when i´m on one and that´s if anyone is even on the server. and besides, why risk the possibility of getting called a "noob" by elitists like in wow? not to assume jka mp´ers are jerks, like i said i never played mp so idk.
whats worse is that there`s tons and tons of mp content, and very little SP in comparison. what good is an MP map if there´s not enough people on at one time to play on it? It just seems like a waste to me to have such beautiful maps and not be able to play on them. it´s just like wow, if you cant find 5 or 10 or 25 people you cant play the content. so when there´s not enough people on, all the mp maps are useless(same for all MP mods). i hate making wow comparisons but it was a successful game. really, how hard is it to compile your mp map as an sp map aswell? add some npc spawn triggers and a level end and vwala! you have an sp map. some may make the argument that it´s because raven didnt release the sp sdk. to that i say, there´s plenty one can still do without it. for ex. it seems that the community has only scratched the surface of what can be done with .npc and .sab files. it seems that mp has been gutted while SP has barely been touched.
an sp map can be played anytime, anywhere, and by anyone, as long as they have jka installed. as opposed to mp being dependent on other people to play, what mods they use, and servers etc. sp is in a sense eternal while mp is impermanent.
idk maybe there´s something i overlooked or am unaware of, but thats just my opinion.
do any guides exist for newbies(like myself) who would like to get involved in mp but have no idea how? it seems somewhat daunting from where i´m sitting. tbh, if i did play mp, i would still want to split my playing time 50:50 between mp and sp.
also, i dont want to play tor because i dont like the wow-like fighting mechanics. if one had control over ones saber and manually aimed the guns like in jko/a i´d be all into it. i also know i would hate getting rofl stomped as a jedi/sith by a bounty hunter or a smuggler in pvp due to the classes having to be balanced. i just watch the youtube videos for the story.
i´d love to hear what other people think.
MP has an SDK. SP does not. That is why nobody mods for it.
I didn't make it!

Guides? What's there to learn? Connect to the Internet, run the game, go to multiplayer, pick a server from the list (one that's not password-protected, of course), join it, follow the server rules (if there are any) and play. Generally, if you don't cause trouble, server admins (if there are any) should leave you alone, but if you run into some trigger-happy power abuser who takes every opportunity to abuse admin powers on you, just leave the server you're on and find another one.

you were right. it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. i was hesitant to just log on a server because i felt like i´d be barging into someones house without knocking or ringing the bell. but it was np.
on another note: i´ve been playing MP for since a day or so after my op. it has been fun. i played with jk+ and tried mb2 out for several days. i liked the ja+ more than mb2
i wouldnt recommend mb2 to a newer player though. its good to check it out once to see the maps, but duel of the fates gets used 90% of the time and that all revolved around gunners camping the bend in the corridor. imo, its more of a gunner map. camino was a little better but that also had a bottle neck for gunners to camp. the saber vs saber was much more fun. i had the most fun on a duel server. the manual blocking was a lot of fun in saber fights. the melee´ing was weird. you´re constantly getting thrown on your back like a ragdoll from every little melee attack(not just from wookies either). i specced force push fully and couldnt once knock a gunner down with it. it also took forever to get up if you tried to roll from side to side, it was quicker to go forwards or backwards but you were still a sitting duck once you hit the ground. the worst map was this poolparty map where you were literally a fish in a barrel and some servers had it going 2-3 days straight. the movement speed felt slow and using manual block took you all the way down to walking speed. also, you had to put so many talent points into basic defensive and saber abilities plus jump just so you wouldnt be too easy to pawn that there were few left over for anything else. i get that they didnt want jedi to be too OP but for ex you had to specc saber offense fully just to use a staff or dual wield. i didnt want to play a guner because it just doesnt interest me. i got my fill of shooting back in the original doom days. if i did wan to shoot guns i´d play cod, which i never have and never will. the maps were really nice looking though and the effects were cool, my favorite was the force see effect, that was spectacular. also for the amount of people on the maps it felt more like a skirmish than a battle. for such a popular mod, it was good but wasnt as great as i thought it would be. it didnt live up to the hype imo. l´ll stick to ja+ and give ojp a try next.
all in all my mp experience was pretty good a vast majority of the players were nice and sportsman-like. definitely much more well behaved than wow´ers. i happy i gave mp a try. but i still like sp just as much.
i guess as far as modding goes, (to all you modders out there) think of sp more as a platform to tell a story and show lucasarts what you think a good sp game should be like. i cant be the only one who thinks the storyline in base jka was horrible and that (as far as jko and jka go) the kyle katarn character was just a lame cleché cross between luke and han. george lucas never reads any of the eu novels or approves any of the game storys either, he has someone else do it for him, and that person has profit in mind more than the integrity of star wars. so make up your own post rotj stories make up your own original characters, dont be confined by the pre-existing eu galaxy. thats stuff is no more or less cannon than anything any of us could/would write anyway.
p.s. i´m still going to make my sp mod. i know you havent heard anything from me the latter half of 2011, rl was crazy for me. i had to move twice, had some family issues come up. my job situation was bad also. but i have been brainstorming it the entire time and gathering even more life experience with which to make the story even better.
best wishes to everyone, keep up the good work, and thank you all for all your help.
