Read some reviews, then.

It's basically Quake 3 with lightsabers and force powers. Only twenty times crappier than it sounds.

Bottom line is, if you're into quality multiplayer gaming, you may want to look elsewhere since Jedi Academy has been transformed into something drastically different to what it was designed as.

The only bright side to JKA is the modding capabilities, but even that is completely outranked in both power and simplicity by other games.

There are far better games out there with far better MP communities. Some of those games are even free, so don't waste your cash on this. :clueless:

Personally, I went into this game with very low expectations. After playing it, I think it still missed the mark. The only reason I got it was that my PC sucks, I can't get M-rated games (or I'd have just gone with UT2004), and wanted something that I could mod.

If I went and did it again, I probably would have stuck with DF II or went with one of the freebies I keep finding. Nexuiz, Alien Arena, Tremulous, and Enemy Territory were some of the better free FPSs I found in the past year. The good demos I've tried are UT2004 and Delta Force, though I don't think anyone plays that anymore.

Personally, this game is impossible for me to advise you to get. There are better Jedi and shooter games out there. Even JO was better than this mess. This game has a pretty bad community and I can say that in the year I've been here, I probably could say I could count the people I've liked without hitting the double digits, though that could be due to me not going anywhere besides these forums. Get something else since you can't do a lot worse than this. :uhm:

Try the previous one, Jedi Knight II-Jedi Outcast. I find the online gameplay much better, although it does lack some good mods.

To be honest i find the lightsaber style fighting much better in jka then in jk2 and if you don't like the community then you are going to the wrong servers there are quite alot of friendly clans and nice people in jka. JKA takes time to get really skilled at its not like other games where you rank up by level then quit when your the highest you need to spend time learning new moves, perfecting those moves, aiming and just overall improving yourself at the game and once you get really skilled you feel a sence of achivement and if you wish you can teach others the moves you have learned etc and being in a clan ranking up in that clan, doing clan matches for the clan etc is rather fun, that is just the start there is much more jka has to offer.

Yes there are modifications but you don't have to play on them there are still quite a few Base servers you can play on and Base servers tend to have more skilled people on them.

To be honest if you guys don't like jka much why do you post on these forums.

If you must know why I'm here, I'm dragged here by the "Latest Forums Thread" on the jk2files homepage.

Because its the only thing we got. We (meaning at least me) atleast want to mod and be able to have a cp community without us having to buy really expensive stuff. And plus we still want to help rehabilitate people who think this game is Da BomBZ0Rs.

You do realise that most other games are moddable without having to buy any expensive stuff, right?

In almost all cases, the modding tools for a game are packaged with the game itself, and if not, they're released for free under the GNU General Public License by the developers shortly after the game's release.

Then try reading a tutorial. It's what every other UT mapper on the planet did.
