I have recently been quite active on the KOTOR FileFront site, downloading and installing mods for KOTOR II. I've noticed some mods are extremely cool... while others leave you wondering why the "author" wasted their time. One such mod just now became available on the site, Carth's Fighting Spirit 1.0 ( http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Carths_Fighting_Spirit;78426) HouseofAmon is the author, and he has had some decent mods previous to this one, but I'm just wondering why bother?! I can't stand to hear all these people having problems with party members getting killed... "Carth is useless"... all that junk. There are more useless characters than Carth... and I tend to keep Carth in my party regularly. He never dies.

As a matter of fact, the only time out of the 7 times through KOTOR that someone died (or the whole party died) was 3 times during my first game. 3 whole times... that's IT. (And NONE all 12 times I played through KOTOR II.) Why is this such a struggle?? Its not that hard people. As long as you equip your characters with decent armor/robes, gloves, belts... you should be fine. And if you MUST (I haven't since my 1st time through KOTOR), use headgear. And for extreme cases (which I've NEVER used these), use the armband shields. I personally don't like headgear, armband shields, or stims... and I haven't used them since my 1st time through KOTOR (except occasionally a few stims while I'm still somewhat weak in the Arena on Taris... that's the ONLY place I've used them since my 1st time through KOTOR).

I think it comes down to proper companion "management". You can switch characters during a fight (you can even choose to have the game pause when you switch characters during a battle)... make sure to go to the menu screen and use a medpac, advanced medpac, or life support pack for those who need it (you can only use 1 per "turn" while in battle mode, even if you attack, so don't waste a potential attack turn using an item when you can attack and use an item on the same turn by going to the Item menu screen and selecting it there... if you need another, you'll have to wait about 5-10 seconds until its your turn again, have your character keep attacking, and go back to the item screen to use another medpac)... or use a Force Heal power if the character is a Jedi and you don't want to waste a medpac. OR... make sure Jedi in your party are set up with the "Jedi Support" script, so they'll use Force Heal when their HP gets low, which will heal everyone in the party.(Bastila, Jolee, and Juhani should automatically be set with the Jedi Support script when they join your party, but it doesn't hurt to double-check.) If those tips don't help you to survive, then I dunno what to tell you. They've helped me not die since my 1st time through KOTOR... and that's without the use of headgear, armband shields, and (with that one exception I noted earlier) stims.

So, I think modders should stick to adding something unique to the KOTOR series... not something that's pretty much useless.

Heh... if you go to that site, you'll see a little disagreement (unless someone removes it) about similarities/differences between Carth and Atton, viewing Atton as a good or evil character, bad info... all sorts of things. I thought I'd comment more on it here than I did in the reply on the mod's page. Just a courtesy... yeah, I'm thoughtful like that.

HouseofAmon considers this mod (Carth's Fighting Spirit) a "hardcore mod". You consider this a hardcore mod? Ooohhh... as long as Carth isn't the only one alive in the party, then he'll keep getting up after he loses all his HP. If you get him to the point where he's losing all his HP... well, that's pretty sad, actually. I consider something like the USM or the HK Factory mod more "hardcore"... those are adding something new to the game, not ripping off something from another character that is pretty much useless. The modders for the USM were spending lots more time on their mod, being creative, and adding something worthwhile. This "mod" is a joke. Sure, there are other mods that take things from other characters in either series... like, the Bastila's Jedi Robe 2.0 mod for KOTOR II that also came out recently. People actually WANT that... its a good mod. This is just pointless, but HOA considers it a "hardcore mod" people. Yikes... oh man, that's pathetic. :smack:

First off. Way to go. We are all proud of your grand KOTOR mastery. All hail Matadore who's only had 3 party members die. Wow. I hope your sarcasm meter is as good as your kotor playing. Enough with the insult, time to move on to my points. I am not trying to cut you down, but after you tore apart House of Anon (who is a modder, and not just a critic), I don't feel very bad. I don't think you understand some of the very things you are criticizing, and I want to clarify so you don't repeat the same insults. In many of the polls I have seen, K1 is voted as having a better storyline as well as many people consider it a better game than K2 (an ending helps). However, more people make mods for TSL and I would say that it is probably a more popular game than K1, at the moment. Why? Because of all of the perks that were added. Lightsaber Finesse, Revitalize, advanced two weapon proficiencies, Stealth Run, the list could go on. What's the big problem with trying to bring those perks to K1. Just because you don't need Carth's Fighting Spirit, maybe someone playing on hard with a scoundrel/consular character doesn't want to walk around with another jedi character. Also, you talk of this mod as if it were cheap and basically cheating, yet you suggest using an item in the start menu so you can attack and heal in the same turn. I do it too, but it is every bit as cheap as a hard-to-kill Carth -- which, to clarify, I consider neither healing/attacking and HOA's Carth's Fighting Spirit cheap, just comparing them. Finally, I believe you completely misunderstood him when he said that it was a hardcore mod. When House of Anon said hardcore, he was refering to mods which make the game harder. They can be found at various mod sites. Beancounter makes one, Achilles has an Autobalance one, there are others, but those are the ones I've tried. You might be interested in using one of those since it sounds like the game is pretty easy for you. Thanks sorry for being harsh, but your criticism and boasting on kotorfiles was pretty bothersome, and when I saw that you had started a thread to basically bash HOA, I couldn't not respond.

Matadore;3654750This is just pointless, but HOA considers it a "hardcore mod" people. Yikes... oh man, that's pathetic. :smack:

What's pathetic is creating a thread which has the sole purpose of being abusive about someone whom you yourself supposedly respect as a mod maker, and going on to rubbish a mod.

Plus, it's not a rant or rave about KOTOR, but a mod for KOTOR, so it would be more appropriate to have started this thread in the mods section.

MatadoreThis is just pointless, but HOA considers it a "hardcore mod" people. Yikes... oh man, that's pathetic.
As someone already stated, I never said it was a hardcore mod, I said most of us use hardcore mods, I would suggest you learn to read, and your comprehension skills could use some work as well... (I hear "Hooked On Phonics" works wonders.)

MatadoreI thought I'd comment more on it here than I did in the reply on the mod's page. Just a courtesy... yeah, I'm thoughtful like that.
Yeah, cowardly is more like it, you wanted to run your mouth some more, but decided to do it here where I wouldn't notice, well, I did..

Matadore So, I think modders should stick to adding something unique to the KOTOR series... not something that's pretty much useless.
You mean useless, like this entire topic is?

You have now managed to waste space on two different forums, and have been shot down in both cases for more less the same reason, you're an idiot..
This "mod" is a joke.

The mod is fine, a lot of people like it, you are just too stupid to understand the very simple concept behind it, as someone already said, I was simply bringing an element of TSL into K1, because a lot of people are playing K2 over the original because of features like this one, and who would be better to give Atton's feat to than Carth?
your criticism and boasting on kotorfiles was pretty bothersome, and when I saw that you had started a thread to basically bash HOA. I couldn't not say something...

You can say that again, and I appreciate you taking up the fight on my behalf.. :D
What's pathetic is creating a thread which has the sole purpose of being abusive about someone whom you yourself supposedly respect as a mod maker, and going on to rubbish a mod.

No doubt, this guy claims to be 30 years old, which makes it even more sad that he would behave so... Assholish, is that a word? :)

====

It's very simple Matadore, if you don't like the mod don't use it.. Which part of this concept confuses you?

I don't make mods just for you, you aren't going to like all of them, there are lots of Kotor fans, they all like different things, so this time it wasn't for you, thats fine, you need to get over it, and move on, I am not going to make mods just to please you, so you might as well get used to this fact right now, I will make whatever mod I feel like, whenever I feel like it, and nothing you can say or do will ever change that...

Oh yeah, this is going to be good. You were right about my "sarcasm meter", obtenebration... and your "insult" wasn't as harsh as you think. It'll be ok... practice makes perfect. First, let me deal with you... then I have to share the wealth with Fyurii and HOA. :D

obtenebrationI don't think you understand some of the very things you are criticizing, and I want to clarify so you don't repeat the same insults.
This isn't a discussion about which is better, KOTOR I or II. And, quite frankly, KOTOR II has its share of useless "perks"... the Revitalize (which is close to what we're talking about with this mod) Force power is totally useless. Stealth Run is useless... why hide? There's no need for that. The only reason to equip certain stealth generator belts is because of their dexterity bonuses (like the Frozian Stealth Belt). There's only one place I can think of that you actually need a stealth generator... and if you absolutely need Stealth Run for that one little area... well, let's just say if you can't find better feats to use your rare feat points on, then you just need to quit the game right now. (Unless you're using the Feat Progression mod... well, its still a waste of a feat.)

obtenebrationAlso, you talk of this mod as if it were cheap and basically cheating, yet you suggest using an item in the start menu so you can attack and heal in the same turn. I do it too, but it is every bit as cheap as a hard-to-kill Carth -- which, to clarify, I consider neither healing/attacking and HOA's Carth's Fighting Spirit cheap, just comparing them.
Umm... let's see. I don't think of this mod as cheating... I think of it as useless, unnecessary, a waste of HOA's time, pointless, retarded... is that clear enough for you? And this mod can in no way be compared to a "loop hole" where you can use an item and attack at the same time. That's just good companion management, as I've stated before. You don't have to install a mod or change the game in any way to be able to do that. This little "trick" is a "perk" of the game itself, without anyone having to manipulate it. (Just like taking advantage of the Hssiss "glitch" in KOTOR II. Developer oversight isn't a mod... you purchase the game with that condition already existing in the game. Exploiting it is just a matter of whether you know about it or not. My first 2 times through KOTOR II, I didn't know about it, so I didn't use it. During my 3rd time through, I read about it online, therefore I've done it that time and the following 9 times afterwards. Knowledge is power, they say...) Oh, another tip... when making a point, don't contradict yourself. Can't get out of the fact that you contradicted yourself by saying "to clarify". Just erase it. :smack:

obtenebrationFinally, I believe you completely misunderstood him when he said that it was a hardcore mod.
Still... "hardcore modders" can mean a few things... he was the one who needed to clarify what he meant. You could mean someone who downloads and uses as many mods as they can cram in... hardcore modder. Or someone who creates a lot of mods, or complicated mods... hardcore modder. Doesn't necessarily have one meaning. I can see how someone downloading mods that adjust the difficulty of the game might be somewhat interested in this mod, but then again, usually someone downloading difficulty mods thinks the game is too easy to begin with. So why would they download those mods, then give themselves an "edge" of sorts by downloading this mod?? Doesn't make sense... might as well play it on Hard again.

obtenebrationThanks sorry for being harsh, but your criticism and boasting on kotorfiles was pretty bothersome, and when I saw that you had started a thread to basically bash HOA, I couldn't not respond.
:bawl: Well, why don't you cry about it... wait, you did. And trust me, your harshness needs a bit of work. But hang in there, get some practice... then go out there and be somebody! :fistpunch:

Next...

FyuriiWhat's pathetic is creating a thread which has the sole purpose of being abusive about someone whom you yourself supposedly respect as a mod maker, and going on to rubbish a mod.

Plus, it's not a rant or rave about KOTOR, but a mod for KOTOR, so it would be more appropriate to have started this thread in the mods section.
Noooo... it is a rant and a rave... here's the definition of rant so you don't have to hurt yourself looking for it:

Dictionary.comto speak or declaim extravagantly or violently
And now, I'll enlighten you with the definition of rave:

Dictionary.comto talk or write with extravagant enthusiasm
So... I think its in the right section... besides, you seem to forget which forum we're using... FileFront's forums. Wait, isn't FileFront where they post mods for KOTOR I & II?! :smack:  :0wned: Enough said...

One more customer, I see... :n0e:
As someone already stated, I never said it was a hardcore mod, I said most of us use hardcore mods, I would suggest you learn to read, and your comprehension skills could use some work as well... (I hear "Hooked On Phonics" works wonders.)

Hmm... an experienced pupil of Hooked on Phonics wants to put a plug for it on FileFront. How touching...
Yeah, cowardly is more like it, you wanted to run your mouth some more, but decided to do it here where I wouldn't notice, well, I did..

I didn't care who noticed it or not... I just thought it'd be better not to get into everything on a reply to a mod. If you'd like, I can just copy and paste all this to the mod reply section, that way you wouldn't need to come looking for it. :D See, I am considerate...
You mean useless, like this entire topic is?

You have now managed to waste space on two different forums, and have been shot down in both cases for more less the same reason, you're an idiot..

Hmm... nope. Someone's opinion isn't useless... but, I guess if it opposes your opinion, then it is. I'll post where I like, when I like, and about whatever I like. You're not going to stop me from doing that by crying about it, so just quit. Its not flattering... And being called an idiot by a guy who makes idiotic mods is kinda ironic, don't you think?
The mod is fine, a lot of people like it, you are just too stupid to understand the very simple concept behind it, as someone already said, I was simply bringing an element of TSL into K1, because a lot of people are playing K2 over the original because of features like this one, and who would be better to give Atton's feat to than Carth?

Well, if your Hooked on Phonics training was really working, then you'd recall that I said I liked your reasoning for trying to implement this mod into Carth's existing storyline. However, you had posted other things in the same post that I didn't agree with. To jump-start your Alzheimer's, here's the beginning of that reply from the mod page:
I'm sorry for making multiple posts in a row, but I reread your #8 comment, HouseofAmon, and I think its quite erroneous. I'm really not trying to be difficult, I just want to set the record straight. (Constructive criticism...) I agree with your first paragraph in #8, and your idea there is a unique way of combining this mod with Carth's existing storyline. However, the rest of the post is what I'm referring to as erroneous. Here's some examples

See... look at how courteous and civil I was being... just making remarks, as people have done in the past with many other mods. Just because everyone isn't kissing your butt about this mod doesn't mean you can jump on the person/people who think this mod is garbage. I'm sure you can find better things in KOTOR II to create a mod for KOTOR I from.
No doubt, this guy claims to be 30 years old, which makes it even more sad that he would behave so... Assholish, is that a word?

Heh... yeah, I threw in some random date as my birthday... I am 30. :smack: (Its no claim, its a fact... something you have a hard time grasping.) What you think of me is irrelevant. Isn't going to stop me from having my opinions or posting my thoughts. You'd better just get over it.. you have a lot to learn about the real world, boy. I'm sure you'll come across people more "assholish" than you think I am... I'd really like to see that. When you crap your pants and start whining for mommy, don't say I didn't warn you.

Umm... didn't I already tell you I wasn't going to use your mod? I said that in my first reply on the mod page, so it seems I'm not the one who is confused. I haven't changed my mind... I laughed my a$$ off when I saw the mod for the very first time. I'm the one that gave it a rating of 1, because its crap. You think now I am reconsidering?! Heh... delusional, methinks you are.

I didn't say you made mods just for me... if you did, I'd find someone else to. Plenty of modders out there making worthwhile mods that I use and enjoy... don't need this junk. And I personally want you to continue to make mods... you'll find something unique to add to the game. This wasn't it... a step in the wrong direction, but we're human... we make mistakes. But absolutely keep working on it... use some creativity... you'll make one that'll be kick-ass one day, and then I'll definitely try it out. But, you can't make something like this and have everyone think its the best thing since Atton's... Fighting... er... Spirit... =p

Ok... looks like everyone got a little something. I hope you all enjoy. Please come again if you feel the need... :smokin:

This section is for Rants and Raves pertaining to the game itself. Not any mods that have been created for the game.

None of us are morons or simpletons Matadore. Do not continue to treat us thusly. From what HOA has said, you obviously have some major beef against this mod for some unfathomable reason that warrants your disrespect of both it and HOA that you post this kind of trash wherever you can.

It is sad to create a thread with which you decide to rubbish a mod, and the creator of the mod. Rubbishing the mod itself is rubbishing the mod's creator.

This thread should locked or deleted in whole since it has nothing to do with KOTOR itself, only a single user made mod for the game.
