I had the same problem, and it was down to the executable, and I also have the same problem with a number of games

I have spoken to activision about this, and they are working on an official solution, but until then there is an alternative

use the URL : http://gamecopyworld.gulli.com/games/files/drz-sfc3.rar

this will start a download which you will need to unzip using Winace, if the download doesnt work use

http://www.spacetarget.com/gcw/games/pc_st_starfleet_command_3.shtml

this will give you a list of mirrors from which you should be able to download the file.

When the download is complete, you need to extract the file to the main program directory, and you should then be able to launch the game without any problems.

I have been having this problem with a variety of games and the only way round it I have found is to disable the copy protection of the games involved, either with an official patch from the software house involved (they often don't show it on their web sites though so you have to ask) or a no cd patch from a third party

I think that the problem in my case is down to my graphics card and drivers. ( I have a radeon 9700pro running direct X 9 beta, and radeons BRCO drivers) I would be interested to know what graphics card you have, in order to prove or disprove this theory.
