When in conquest mode what is a star base good for? I lost the manual for this game. Anyone know where I can download one?

What I mean Is... Why would I want to Buy a Starbase? What can I do with it, that I cant do with the one already there?

Ok, you cant do anything with a starbase that you buy other than what you can do with a normal one. It gives you more game points, and helps toward rank and prestige, in a non-interactable way. but the main thing is that if you are in a skirmish, you can put it where you need it to refit ext. sorry..........it basically does nothing! =)

Starbases act as staging points for fleet operations. On arriving at a starbase you can resupply, repair and refit your ship, recruit new officers (or replace dead ones) and buy a new ship if you have the prestige. It is useful to be near a starbase so that you can reach these facilities quickly. Imagine, for a moment that you take heavy damage in a battle; you don't want to travel halfway across the map to repair your ship, do you? You can therefore deploy starbases to consolidate territorial gains and keep the front lines supplied.

Thanks for the info guys. I am currently ravaging the Romulans. Maybe I will drop a base or two in the territory I have taken so far. Also I found out that the manual for the game is on the cd. You can get to it from the menu that comes up when you put the disk in.
