In addition to tighter definitions of "indecency" and higher fines for broadcasters, the FCC is also talking about regulating cable and satellite broadcasts.

If your a US citizen, you might want to check out the link and sign the petition. http://stopfcc.com/

Oh, and thank you very much Janet Jackson!

the problem is that people would rather do nothing than do something. Hopefully when the only shows on TV are teletubbies because that is the only 'proper' show then people will realise whats happening

You guys are blowing this way out of proportion. They are only trying to cut out the improper material in a few TV shows. Really, the smoking thing is a little over doing it, but a family show talking about sex isn't what most parents want their kids to watch. Me personally, I don't care about seeing a tit on a show or at the Super Bowl, but I think the media is turning our society inside out with a lot of bullshit. I am really only referring to MTV and other music award shows, and a few Citcoms and talk shows. I also think rap is fucking up our society. I think it is time to start monitoring rap artist music, and some rock artist. I am sick of seeing this gangster bullshit on my TV. And I am sick of seeing it at school. You all were talking about an intellectual decline of society, well the media has an effect on it. A lot of people base a lot of their actions on things that go on in the media. Now is our chance to fix some of the media that is corrupting people. No, I am not suggesting we all start watching Barney. I am saying we monitor peoples behaviors in media, and also monitor what goes on in the music industry. People cuss, smoke, have sex, and do all that stuff. Does that mean we should influence it even further? But that isn't the real problem. The real problem is talk show host like Howard Stern and rap music. Rap music has become extremely popular in the last 6 years. Thank god it is dying down as a fad, but it still has an effect to why a lot of kids act like morons.

Please, this whole FCC thing is just a spell, weve seen it happen a million times before. Soon enough they'll have ended their little appeasement phase and everything will go back to the way it was, not that I mind what the FCC is doing. I mean just how badly do you care about having your sex and drugs on TV to go out and waste time like this? Its not that big of deal. No one is losing their freedom of speech over it, and its an insult to the writers of our constitution and its amendments to claim that this is the kind of thing they were trying to protect us from.

Everyone seems to forget that when the constitution was made oh say 300+ years ago, they had no clue such inventions as the TV, radio, computer, and various other communication devices would be made. They also had no clue that homosexuality would become such a big deal, or that black people would be treated as equals. When the thing was made, they didn't know a lot of things. Really, America is going into a cultural war here. We are allowed to do a lot of things that weren't allowed back in the day. And back in the day, things were pretty fine. We had the hippy era, but that didn't last too long. We had the 80's, and that didn't last long either. But kids in school weren't dipshits, well at least not as many as today. And I still think that it can be blamed partly on the media/music industries. More on the music industry though.

Pft, what a joke, we had just as many problems before the 60's and 70's as we did during them, the only difference is they were swept under the rug in a false vision of a perfect America. Anyone remember the 1920's and 30's were the pinnacle of organized crime?
