Hi! I am very new to mapping and was wondering if you can edit a map in bsp format? I have all the tools and want to make a map of Naboo Palace form Episode I, but I need some help. If anyone can help me that would be great. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but it's hard and useless to edit a BSP file: first of all, you can't directly edit it. You should have to un-compile it. I don't know how, I think you need a BSP un-compiler (the opposite of sof2map and q3map...), and it's hard (just because I don't want to say "impossible") to find and get it. Then, even if you un-compile a BSP file, you will lose all the textures' informations... I'm sorry. I hope you'll be luckier with your Naboo palace map.

Hmm.. I think that you can edit it with text editor without formatting (notepad is good, bu reads only small files). WordPad formats text (adds information about Font, size...)

You don't need the opposite of Q3Map2, because Q3map2 has the decompile option built in.

Are we sure he means decompile to edit? To me it reads more like a poorly wrote way of saying how do I start mapping as he said "I have all the tools".

Built in? What do you mean? I have been trying to figure that out, but I never have yet.

The map is in bsp format and I want it in map format so I can look at it. Any help would be great. I don't really think there is a way to convert it to map format but I could be wrong.

You can look at it in-game, too.

Maybe we newer mappers want to learn from you wise, intelligent old mappers whose brilliant work we wish to analyze further?
