Ummm im a SUPER noob so go easy on me, i just whant to change the colors of some robes to all black (like anakin) and i dont know how, i alredy made assets0.pk3 as a zip and then whent to models, players, jedi_hm, and made a copy of robes02 and named it robes04 and painted it all black and it dosent apear in the options on making a Jedi so can sombody plz help me on baby steps pretty plz?
1-you need to make X thing 2-then name it x 3-send it to x folder etc.

Ok, lets see if I can help.
I did a mod of the very same robes, but I hate to tell you you picked a nasty thng to reskin since there will be one extra step involved.
First of all, notice that you need to make three new textures... robes02, robes02_arms (for the arms) and robes02_lower (for the part that hangs bellow the belt). Make your dark versions of these three files and your half way there.
Next... you need to make a .skin file for this robe. Don't panic... just find the .skin file for the existing robe (that'd be torso_1b.skin I thin). Open that with notepad... lots of text should come up, but again no worries. Just look for references to the files you just copied (robes02, robes_02 arms, etc) and replace them with your filenames. The save the skin file under a new name. IMPORTANT: you need to call it torso_something.skin where "something" is a new name for your robe, so torso_black.skin would work, for example.
Ok, not done yet. Now you need to make the skin selectable. For that, you need to make an icon. You can use any image, 128x128 pixels in size... to be extra snazy I took a printscreen of the model in modviewer but you certainly don't have to go through all that trouble. IMPORTANT: Once again, you need to name it correctly. The format is icon_torso_something.*** where something is the SAME NAME for your skin, and *** is the file format; so a jpeg of torso_black.skin HAS to be called icon_torso_black.jpg. As far as I know, you can use jpg, tga, or png for these files (rem to not overcompress the jpgs...).
Now you SHOULD be done, but there is one last step, I'm afraid. Thats cause you picked the robe model, which has a double sided texture...what I mean by that is that the lower part of the robe can be seen from the outside (behind the model) and inside, between the legs. This drove me insane until I finaly figured it out this morning... and its not hard once you know what the hell you're looking for.
Go back to assets01.pk3 and extract the file called players.shader. As always, make sure you extract with the path intact. Open that file with note pad and scroll down (its a little past the middle) until you find a reference to robes02_lower. Now, copy that entire section (from the path to the closing bracket before the next file) and paste it right bellow itself. Change all references from robes02_lower to robes04_lower (or whatever you called it) in the copied text. Save the file as players.shader (Note: the original will be read-only, so either save it as something else and rename it or remove the read-only property from the file).
Now you're all set, but you have to make the pk3 like it says in the skinning tutorial. I don't want to retype all that but remeber the whole thing is that you need to put the files WITH the original path. Unlike with most standard skins, you NEED to include your new copy of players.shader, so make sure the shaders directory is there as well. Put your new pk3 in the GameData folder and you should be good to go. Your new robe should be selectable in both single and multiplayer.
