ok, I made a model of my own personal lightsaber so far. Now I'm trying to figure out how to flatten out (or unfold...) the model so I could get the skinning done. Can someone help me on how to flatten out the model? I'm using Gmax for this.
okay... can the model be skinned the way it is without flattening it out?

I dunno about GMax but 3DS Max has "Unwrap UVW" which gives you a UVW map will all the faces on it - or does if you use the commands in there...damnit why have I still not got GMax so I know the differences.
I have a difficult time trying to unwrap the sucker. I got the little parts of it out of the main saber part, but I just don't know which vertices to break when trying to unwrap the main saber part (which is a long cylinder).
Doesn't ANYONE know how to unwrap with Gmax? I can't tell which vertices to unweld.
