How do I get a file to replace, for example Kyle?

The Kyle model is inside the assets1 file(which can be opened with WinZip or WinRAR), but I cant figure out how to put new models into the assets1 file. Help?

Ok first off "CappyD", don't, don't, DON'T put anything into any of your "assets" files! If you do, me and my little friend "skippy" is going to have to track you down, and beat you with a wet saber! Insted, make a new .pk3 file and copy/paste the "models" folder (or anthing else for example) from "assets1" to the new .pk3. You will be able to then add, edit, or erase anything you want without messing up your game permanently.

Now changing existing models in JA is fairly simple. However, not all models/skins from JO will work well in JA seeing as JO and JA use differnt "bone" structures in making there models (JA uses less "bones" than JO). Vampire D is a good example of this. Once you have made your new .pk3, follow these steps (to replace Kyle for example):

1) First go to Kyle's model directory in your new .pk3 file (models/players/kyle) and erase everything in there. 2) Next, choose a model/skin you want to replace Kyle with (I'll use the "darthmaul" skin for an example). 3) Then it's just a simple matter of dragging everything within the "darthmaul" .pk3 (botfiles, models, and scripts folders) into your new .pk3 file. Your new .pk3 file should now have these files: botfiles, models, and scripts folders. 4) Place your "darthmaul" .pk3 AND your newly created .pk3 into your JA base folder. Voila! Your all done! Now you have "darthmaul" as kyle! Cool huh? However, if you wan't to use darthmaul as a bot in SP mode (not sure about MP mode), you'll also have to create a .npc file to place in ext_data/npcs folder (yup, you guesed it. A new .pk3 would have to be made).

Anyway, you should also be made aware of these problems you might run into with replacing JA skins with JO ones. 1) Firstly, peolpe have been experiancing not having custom skin sounds run in game. That's because character sounds are placed in a different directory in JA than JO. There's a thread somewhere in the forums which explane how to fix this. Look it up......... 2) Secondly, some taunt's and kata moves may not work completly using JO skins and models. The taunt and kata move when using two sabers, for example, will only half work. They will not let go of both sabers, only one of them. Some believe it's because only one hand of JO skins have a "tag_flash" fuction, whatever that is (I'm no good at making NEW skins).

So, be aware that JO skins/models do have some issues to contend with, but not enough to stop using them in jedi academy alltogether :) Have fun, and let us know your results.......................
