I've heard only two acceptable versions on how to pronounce "Tifa". Is it: Tee-fuh ? (long "e" sound: beat, fleet, dream) or Ti-fuh ? (short "i" sound: blip, is, shin)

Godfoster Ti-fuh ? (short "i" sound: blip, is, shin)

It's the second one.

If it where Tee-fuh, then it would be spelt as "Teefa" or "Teafa" or maybe even "Tiifa". Beleive me, I take Latin, and I've asked Bonzi about this before. v_V;

Come one guys... this is basic phonics, here..

No offense, but screw Latin and phonics. Here's why:

The English language is not based on phonics like the Japanese language is. If you look at how most of our words are spelled versus the pronunciations, there are many places where you will find differences. The point? You can't always base pronunciation of an English word on its spelling (baccaleaurate, association, college, and collage to name a few).

Japanese however, you can (at least when it's in Romaji). In Japanese, that name would be "Tee-fuh" (*this will make sense to those who know how to pronounce Japanese). And although we are not (all) Japanese, consider that the game and name were made by Japanese people.

But hey, the reason I made this was to find out why people pronounce it the way they choose to. So keep em coming!

(By the way, interesting reasoning Covin Narcissus)

ˈti:fə As has already been pointed out, spelling is of little consequence. I go for the first one; and wtf is "Tifa"?
