OK, I can already feel the negative waves coming from all of you just by looking at the title, but I have to say that I was expecting more from JA.
Sure ok, they kept their promises to make a game where you can create your own character, but you are still restricted to a name, whether you are male or female, so it still feels like you're not entirely "yourself" as it were. Nothing new has been added to the game, besides the staff and dual sabers and the different acrobatics. Speaking of acrobatics, I half expected that you could use force jump off a wall when you grab on one so you could come back on a path, instead you just make a small jump off it that serves almost no purpose, and what's the usefulness of the vertical wall run anyway?
So, in short, I LOVE the game in terms of entertainment and imagination, but I was expecting more.............
But again that's my point of view.
well I love all the new things added. with the addition of new sabers we know they will work and not lock up your char. when playing in a duel. I had this happen to me and clan mates all the time in jk2. plus the new addition of seige is so awsome. I love the idea of looking into the future and having atat and atst wars. Becouse I know a few people makeing the blueprints for there mods. The door is fully open for this game and we are not restricted on anything anymore. also pod racing is something I heard also in the works. so I think it is a great game and I love it. of course everyone is entitled to there own opinion
The guys at Jolt are complaining about multiplayer balance issues, so before we get anyone complaining about that I'd like you all to indulge me a little and allow me to paste my thoughts on the subject (originally written at Jolt). There's nothing wrong with JA that can't be fixed with patches (other than the graphics obviously but only a mule in a smelting factory would give a damn about that). Single-player: the lack of a decent interface. It's somewhat novel to upgrade the interface in a patch but it's desperately needed. The mission selection menu needs to have an exit button, a skill level select button, a player re-customisation screen and once you've beaten the game all maps should be unlocked again.
As for the multiplayer, JK2 was ABSOLUTELY UNPLAYABLE before it was patched, and believe me it was a lot worse than JA MP is at the moment. Remember those lamers who abused the backslash so they just spun in a circle, instantly killing anyone who got near them? Or the yellow-or-blue-side-to-side-slash-combo-of-death or the kicking? Oh wait, those last two still aren't fixed.
Jedi Academy multiplayer currently has two balancing problems. 1. It's very very difficult to beat anyone using the lightstaff or dual sabers when you've just got a lone saber. Which isn't fair as the lone saber is more precise, so it should be the best for duelists. This can be fixed either by changing the lightstaff and 2sabers (lightstaff no longer causes so many headshots, 2sabers are much better for blocking than for attack or vice versa- specialisation), by disabling locational damage to the head, or by altering the blocking capabilities of the lone saber (either allow it to block while attacking or just generally make the block more effective). A combination of the last two would sit best with me. 2. The butterfly special attack is waaaay too powerful. A strong attack like this might be good for CTF, but it shouldn't be an instagib move: its hits should cause moderate damage or knock people over rather than killing them outright (unless they're injured of course). Both these problems can easily be fixed by way of patches.
Dont forget lightning 1 hit ko and kick 1 hit ko, oh and the duel issues tooo. Buut yea....jk3 will rock once its patched. oh guys i dont think anyones noticed but theres a potential backstab like move abuse that we saw in jk2 versions 1.00-1.03. im talking about the roll stab. i dunno i just have a bad feeling about that move. then again with this force power for special move thingie impelmented we wont get major spamage , ithink that was one of the few briliant ideas in the new mplayer. that and the new chatbox system, which pwns. In terms of maps....yea they alright, no more contstircting maps like the ffa/raven which is coo. one more thing they need to fix... for the dual and staff lunge equivalents, in mp these moves force the player to be absolutely stationary, they should simply make it so that its the same as in single. that would also rock
eh, i was dissappointed in the graphics mainly, but its not a big deal.
and i wish MP was a little easier
dude u always expect more when u just start that how i felt but once u start going and u play the mp u love it to death. it is alot better than JO i find myself never switching from the saber cuz it rules so awesome. even if i have to snipe somebody i try to get close and zap em lol
The only thing that was dissapointing was the name Jaden.A female I Understand,but I don't see how that can be a male's name.
We weren't given free-choice of a character's name, and instead, the name 'Jaden' was given is so that the character's name can be voiced in cutscenes. Otherwise, it would be "Hey you!" or "You... yes, you, begin your training. And don't call me Master Katarn." Until we get tech. smart enough to pronounce names the way we want it to be sound (instead of in monotone or stress in the wrong syllable.) But I have to agree that another name could have been chosen. But then, that's the Star Wars Galaxy we're talking about. We can't be sure it wouldn't be a male AND female name in their galaxy. Regardless, the name don't sound good...
I wasn't expecting much from JA, so, I was very happy with it when I got it. If I had expected more, I would be disappointed.
