Does anyone here know where to get a cheap price on ram , 1 gig , that will do, pricewatch.com already checked , so anyone have any good links or stores ?
Buy 2x512MB: it'll be much cheaper than a quality 1x1024MB setup, and allows you to run in a dual channel configuration, which doubles throughput (PC3200 running dual channel has a bandwidth of 6.4GB/s). I highly recommend that you do NOT buy RAM online unless the seller willing to tell you who manufactured the memory chips on the RAM. Board manufacturer isn't nearly so important, but make sure that a reputable company made the chips. A lot of the cheap RAM sticks have no-brand chips, and buying them is like buying an "500W PSU" that weighs a whopping 8oz. Having said that, I buy exclusively from Iguana Micro (www.iguanamicro.com), as I know that the guy who owns it won't sell chintzy parts, even on request. 2x512MB PC3200 will set you back about $170 plus shipping, currently.
so just buy 2 512's got ya ,i dont expect to buy it online though
Ok then, in that case I recommend that you hit up your local area phone book and go pay a visit to your local independant retailer(s), where you can usually get pretty good prices, as well as a nice long look at the product. Use big box stores like CompUSA or Best Buy as a last resort only; they like to gouge on a lot of their prices. Also, for what it's worth, even though not every chip on the market can take full advantage of it, PC3200 is more or less the speed to get right now (best value): it's the fastest officially supported SDRAM on the market, and only a few bucks more expensive than PC2700.
If you were going to buy online, i would have said tigerdirect.com
