In 11th grade, my history teacher did everything by the book  To him the Battle of the Bulge was merely "The last major battle of WWII". High school was such a waste of time.

Imo, the worst way to be educated is by a textbook. When you read it you fall asleep (I've even seen teachers fall asleep from reading them  ), there is very limited information and it gives you a vague general idea. It's basically vocabulary with a historical theme (IE what is nazism) What they need to do is to take classes on field trips to WWII recreations or show them non-robot voice documentaries.

How about we get a whole new education system. Currently the education system is a huge waste of time, teaching you irrelevant and useless information. And the problem is no one challenges it.

When I'm finally done University and teaching secondary school history. I'm gonna ask "why" every 2 minutes, to try and challenge the kids and keep them interested. Give the active ones bonus marks and a reason for the jocks to kick their asses after class.

In defense of my school, however, I can say that my 10th grade World History teacher spent about the entire spring on WWII. He was a total WWII history buff and brought in uniforms, weapons, etc. Even the stoners were interested in what he had to say.

Probably one of the best teachers I've ever had.

Hopefully he didn't bring in flags! About once a year I happen to read about a history teacher that gets fired because they bring in flags from every major power involved and some bitchy teacher (always a woman) gets all pissy and complains.

"Oh god! The kids will see a Nazi flag!!!! It's not like they havn't all played Medal of honor or watched saving private ryan or another war movie!"

Schools are getting so friggen PC that soon history is gonna be a 37 yr old virgin in sandals giving dates and glossary style descriptions that are all watered down so as to not offend people who for some reason get offended by things that happeded 500 years and have nothing to do with them.
