A month or so back, someone told me I was talking out my ass about the possibility of a US Draft to back up the war effort in Iraq.

Now, I'm concerned that the following bills, if passed, are going to make it a requirement for students 18-25 to perform military service:

The Senate Bill: Senate

The House Bill: House

And then there are articles like: Bush drives to fill draft and appeal board positions

I suppose this is related to Cheney's comments that the War Against Terror is going to last 'generations', and that "Cheney struck a surprisingly dour note and suggested only an administration of proven ability could manage the dramatic overhaul necessary for the nation's security" <- this suggests to me some pretty scarey things...

Like in the last thread, the losses in Iraq, while somewhat over what they should be, are not NEARLY enough to need a draft to cover those losses. Just another attempt to make this war look like "vietnam 2"

Also I would sooner enlist than be drafted. I'm sorry that some people here don't love their country and family enough to want to defend them.... even if the war is for nothing and out in the middle of the desert, but thats getting way off the point

I'm already signed up. I'm to North Georgia Military College. I'll be an officer in a couple years.

You're assuming all the losses are deaths in the war. Most statistics are citing the 44% re-enlistment rate. That's over half of the soldiers who return that don't want to come back.

[QUOTE=judge reinhold]If you believe those will go anywhere you're much less intelligent that I figured you were.

I'm after opinions from /actual/ American Citizens, rather than insults; I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear. I'd like to see the flip side, because all 'we' (Outside of the US borders see) is what a lot of our media sensationalise...
