Ok, my gal bought me GTA: San Andreas for the PC. Rock on, life is good. I go to install the game, by putting the CD into the CD-Rom as I have millions of other times in my life but today was different, namely the computer just sat there and looked at me. It didn't recognize the CD!!! As far as my computer is concerned, there's nothing in the CD drive. I cannot access anything on the game CD, so that nixes any chance of manually firing up the install or autorun. I thought maybe my CD rom finally died off, but it likes every other game CD I have. So I thought, well maybe the CD itself is defective, so I swapped my GTA: South Africa copy for another one. Same results. Is any one else having trouble like this and if so how the devil did y'all fix it?
Strange, where did the cd/dvd come from?

Try inserting the CD into your drive, then restarting the PC with the CD in the drive. That often does the trick for me. Or, if you have two disk drives, try them both.
I tried rebooting the computer with the CD in the drive, the thing still refuses to acknowledge there is a CD inside. As for where I picked up both copies of the game, that'd be Walmart. My money is on a driver issue, but I wanted to see if others had this problem. Any help, feel free to add your advice. Still stuck.
If other CD's/DVD's work in your drive, then its not a driver issue.

Ok, since no one else asked this one, I will go out on a limb, but I dont wanna hear no crap for it,, ok, are you sure it is the PC version of Sa? Ok stupid question out of the way lol...
That isn't as stupid as it seems, so don't be ashamed, but it wouldn't work anyway. A PS2 or XBox CD in a PC would be recognized but deemed an 'illegible DVD.' Still, something must be up with the CD, because it is apparently not your own computer...
Lol, yeah I was really hoping my gal screwed up and bought me a copy for the wrong platform, but nope. I have a PC version and the d@mned thing refuses to be recognized. Still stuck, but I do appreciate the suggestions thus far. The next radical step will be to buy a whole new external CD rom just to play this game. (It had better be good.)
This game is very good lol... Isnt there a way of going to the run option and typing in what you want to run.. Just guessing here...
That might work, but if the PC doesn't recognize the disk, it can't read content. Also, you need to know the .exe name for the San Andreas program. Anyone know (I use a PS2 copy)? (To find out, run San Andreas and bring up Task Manager, or Ctrl-Alt-Del. Right click on the program and say 'Go to Process.' It should highlight an .exe name; something like Sanandreas.exe, SA.exe, or similar things)
