Wouldn't it be possible to mod the Quake 4 engine (id updated Doom 3 engine) for a Jedi Knight game such as Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy (or Jedi Outcast's storyline but with added attack combos and doubleblades from Jedi Academy)? Or perhaps a remake of the original Jedi Knight series, wich might have good gameplay but by today's standard they've got crappy graphics?

The entire jedi knight series was modified on the Quake 3 Arena source code. And the Quake 4 source code was made on the Doom 3 engine. So all you have to do is edit the Doom 3 source, and you'll have the next Jedi Knight series in your hands! Good luck coders! P.S. > I would post the website to get the SDK, but filefront wont let me post URL's till my 15 post limit is reached. Just search google!

Believe me when I say im VERY eager for a new Jedi Knight game to be released, and I have the doom 3 source code and all, but I know close to nothing about C++. That's why next semester i'll be learning C++, but I really hope a great team of coders can pull a bunch of snippets off the Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast game and slap it with the doom 3 engine and create a new Jedi Knight game. Keep in mind all these source codes are fully legal and available on the net. Just search on google cause I can't post direct URL's still....:bawl:

To create a game, you need a team of people who can do the following;

1) character and weapon model 2) C++ code 3) build networks 4) webhost, webbuilder and purchase a decent domain

Which is all very pricey and consumes alot of time. Also you have to buy the rights to the name, otherwhise you might have to go with a different name, somewhat resembling the name.

The Doom 3 source code is packed in the SDK (Source Developers Kit). Exactly as every game's source code is packed up. Search for it on google. As for the source code being fully legal, its under the GPL license which allows it to be legal as long as it is in executable or object code form...

Grant of License. Subject to the terms and provisions of this Agreement and so long as you fully comply at all times with this Agreement, Id Software grants to you the non-exclusive and limited right to use the Software only in executable or object code form.
