have some interesting news regarding this prob, it is almost certainly an external network prob, cause I am now getting it also. I did a quick reinstall of rtcw to clear up some file arrangenemts to do with the fact that I had 2 vers of rtcw running.
When I finished I fired up and had the same prob, only a few servers, most with pings over 1200 to 1400, except for a few fairly local servers. So after looking around for probs in full ver and finding nothing I fired up the copy of the original test2 ver with the beach map I still had installed. Now keep in mind this hasn't been altered in any way and has been working fine since install, now it does the same as the full ver. The only servers with low pings in both the full and test2 were servers that were relatively local, (ie: a few in Australia for the full ver and one in Singapore for the test2 ver.) Now Singapore has a direct underwater cable link from Aust so that is usually the second fastest server in games apart from servers in Australia. Can you check location of servers on your PC to see if the same factor applies.
The thing is, if most players are located in USA they probably wouldn't notice this, only players outside the US and logging to the master servers may notice it. It could be a DOS through the Master Servers I suppose, but not knowing how they are set up it is very hard to say what is causing prob. Note that my rtcw was working fine a week ago and I haven't really played much, only logging on to my local favourite servers, which wouldn't have been greatly affected. So this prob may have started here the same time as it started for you.
Some of these folks has a point, you could be a victim of a DoS attack or the ISP you're using is, either that or your ISP has some serious routing problems if you aren't having trouble getting around on the internet elsewhere. Keep up the investigation, I'm sure it's a fairly simple solution.
This problem appears to have resolved itself, overnight it was playing up on my PC, this afternoon it is fine, can we have some input 3365? Has the problem fixed itself your end also?
No. I'm still having the problem. I tried few more things. 1. I used a regular phone modem and used other ISP. Just as I thought, it works fine. I got good enough ping and more servers. 2. I tried "Path Finder". Interestingly, I can see all servers through this method. However, I can not play the game because of the constant "Connection interrupted".
3. Since my phone modem connection works fine with other ISP, and since my network card is working fine with the other things, I decided to call my ISP. Here's the response from the ISP. "Well, your e-mail works fine and you can surf the internet fine. If your "regular internet stuff" is going fine, we can not make this an issue. There's nothing we can do". Typical ISP tech support..... Playing RTCW is my "regular internet stuff", idiot.
Anyway, I still can't play. Now I wonder why I can see the serves and get better ping time with Path Finder. Any idea?
My problem has been fixed finally. How? Like apocalypse_kid's case, the problem resolved by itself. After all, it was my ISP causing the problem.
I'd like to thank apocalypse_kid and all other folks helped me here.
Thank you all very much.
In all cases, when every possible solution has been applied, and it still doesn't, work apply the BSE principle (Blame Somebody Else) LOL.
Glad your connection is working, also you might notice that telco's have the BSE prinicpal backarsewards, in all cases when something doesn't work, FIRST BSE, then when they've give up in despair finally admit fault and fix it.
