I have been getting this error, may be worded somewhat differently, don't remember exactly. Sometimes a server will try once or twice and get past the error and i connect fine. Other times it will count for longer than i am willing to wait (like 125 attempts or so). Anybody know what is causing this?

Thnks,

Milosovic

Yeah,

Some low life has copied your CD key and has been using it on the net to play RTCW. ALso keep in mind if you crash out of a game rather than exit normally it will take the master server a few minutes to release the CD key for use - you will get that message because it thinks you are still playing on the other server.

You can get around the problem with a cheat, however it is possible (and I know some admins do it) to detect that 2 players are using the same CD key to play on that server, don't know about playing on 2 different servers though - does anyone here have anymore info?

Right on, kid. Though I have left a game normally, started up pathfinder and see myself still in the game!!! Usually as a HPB at 999. A few refreshes and the server drops me. and I can go back. Another thing is when buying new software, inspect the package and make sure it isnt a returned item!!!!

How can someone copy your cd key? Can they do it while your playing on a server? Or just copy it and return it too the store?

Teufel, unfortunately you have probably been the victim of a keygen program that just happened to generate the same key as the one your CD came with. This is a real pain, cause if it gets spread around to much id has the ability to lock out a CD key - meaning locking out the genuine purchaser as well!

I have heard that once this happens there is no recompense, meaning your screwed. This is another reason I think that id should keep a list of registered users, with a way to prove you are the genuine owner they could issue you with another key.

Damn don't you hate that.

Now I don't advocate piracy myself - (which means I don't have all the games I wan't cause I can't afford it!!) - but I don't automatically hate all software pirates - some software companies have jacked the price of their applications up so high they cost more than a cheap computer these days (we all know who I mean don't we?). I do think, however, that once these pirates start infringing on the rights of the genuine purchaser they've gone a wee bit too far!

Any other opinions here? Maybe we should start a new thread with this one.

As far as I know the cd-key can't be copied while online. A returned item could have been copied. There are other ways too. But they ain't gonna be discussed here.

Oh, and if you are using a file sharing proggy, make sure you aren't sharing your whole damn FS!!!! And make sure your OS isn't setup to share your FS, too.
