GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem I know this is the error everyone has asked about a hundred times but I cant find an answer. I am running Windows XP, AMD athlon 1400, 512 ram, my system is very capable of running RTCW and it worked fine with my old geforce2 64mb card. Now I got a Radeon 9200 128 mb which has worked great with all my other games except wolfenstein. I have gone to ATI and got the new drivers and reinstalled them to be sure but it still gives me the same error. Do I need to go and download an OpenGl dll? Thanks, Connor

Heres the solution :lookaround: :

First: Update to the latest Detonator drivers for your NVidia card for windows XP/2000. ( http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000) Version 23.11

Second: After the install of the videodriver search for these 2 files: opengl32.dll (670Kb, dated 7 sept 2001) and opengl32.lib (325Kb, dated 16 july 1996). The can be found in the windows\system32 directory.

Third: Copy these 2 files into your game dir for example: x:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA (x is your drive letter where the game is installed!) overwriting the old files that were there. (the old opengl32.dll is 717Kb)

Last step: Remove the '3dfxgl.dll' from your game dir. that should fix the problem. I believe the engine tries to load the 3dfx drivers first. I think when they did the RTCW code they did not do a validity check to make sure there was not another opengl driver before erroring out. After these steps the game will work on XP

detonater drivers are useless to him, he has the ATI 9200. maby if he uses the catalyst drivers in place, your solution will still work?

myself, i just reformatted my HDD, and installed the drivers from the disk, then went here: http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html and installed the latest drivers (sorry, i can't find the actual site i got the driver from, this is the official site tho. if you still have probs, lemme know, when i get home, i'll send you the link i have.)

Well I had already cleaned out all old drivers and reinstalled my catalyst drivers and it still would not work. I could only find the Opengl.dll file, couldnt find the .lib file nor the 3dfxgl.dll in my game directory that he told me to delete. So I put the file in there and tried it it worked and let me join servers (From Pathfinder) but menu buttons such as quit etc at main menus did not work. Then I remembered I had not patched to 1.41 since I reinstalled so I patched it and it seems to be working fine. Anyways, thanks for the help guys, I hope it keeps working lol.

In the main/wolfconfig_mp.cfg is a line that says: seta r_lastValidRenderer "name of your videocard" If you did not change this it still stands on your geforce2 card. Try finding it. Then open it with notepad or any other text editor and delete the whole line. Now when you start the game it hopefully detects the right one and lets you play without the error.
