Does anyone think that SFC3 is alot less complex thant SFC2? I like SFC 2 better because there are more tactical decisions you need to make. What do you folks think?

SFC 3 is much better, in my opinion. First of all, the speed system is more true to Star Trek. In SFC 2, there are speed factors, 0-31. In SFC it goes by fractions of full impuse power. Plus, you can go backwards. Perhaps the most significant change is the ability to warp. In SFC 2, there was to much focus on ship power; in SFC 3, there is plemty of power for all ship systems. The shield reinfocement system is much better. Overall, SFC 3 has as many tactical options, but they have been made easier to use.

With SFC 3, you no longer have the option to beam mines into the path of enemy ships. That was a pretty good tactic.

Also, it's kind of hard to judge the scale of the ship you just ran into (i.e. is it bigger and more powerful than you are). I've found that more so in SFC 3. At least with SFC 2, you can quickly look at the weapons the other ship is carrying to see if you are outgunned.

I like the graphics better in SFC 3, but I believe there are more features to control (and thus more tactical planning is required) in SFC 2.

In SFC 3, you can easily judge the strength of you opponent. A detailed ship schematic of it is provided-in fact, I like it better than SFC 2.

In SFC 3, you can select your ship, supply it, refit it, and select new officer. That alone makes it better in my opinion.

In SFC2 you can mod ships as well using shipedit. You can have your arcs all face backward if you wanted. I like the power management in SFC2. You shouldn't have enough power to do it all until you get a BB class. Makes you have to make more decisions in the heat of battle.

I think that makes the battle more interesting. In SFC2 when fighting a CA with an FF, I would always hit it with everything and then place all weapons offline so I could gain speed to get away. Then drop mines and turn so dropped shield was not targeted. Then speed off with rear shield enforced. After a good ways away I 'd recharge my weapons.

They are both good games in my opinion.

Of course, the ability to go to Warp is one of the most major improvements.

And the Anti-Cloak Sensors. (Even though they don't help you with anything most of the time. Lol.)

Although, if you have a good ship computer (Type V), it can prove useful.
