Capt. QueegOooo that's new... "We have no control over the server, therefore, we do not know when it will be up again." That's a new story from them! Different than what I got... Thanks for the info....

I decided to take a glance at the support site for Activision and came across this. "Though uncommon the Master Server is sometimes unavailable. This may be due to maintenance on the server, a network outage, or simply the routing between your machine and the server over the internet. This issue will usually resolve itself if you are patient.

Be sure that your computer is not behind a software or hardware firewall of any kind. This includes firewalls built into routers or other equipment, as well as programs like Zone Alarm, Black Ice, and the integrated firewall in Windows XP. Activision does not support the use of our games from behind a firewall. If it is not possible to disable the firewall you will need to open the ports for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Return to Castle Wolfenstein transmits and receives network traffic on ports 27950, 27960, 27965 and 27952 using both TCP and UDP. The exact details on opening these ports is specific to your firewall. For more information check with the firewall documentation or manufacturer.

Another common cause of problems is a poorly configured router or connection sharing solution. If you are using a router, ICS, NAT or a software gateway you may have problems playing on the internet. This is because the router may not be forwarding the correct information back to your machine. It may be possible to get around this problem using port forwarding or DMZ. You can find more information on configuring shared connections for multiplayer gaming at www.practicallynetworked.com. Please be aware that like a firewall we cannot actively support using shared connections to play online.

The most common cause of problems though is usually the simplest - an overburdened network stack. By default many computers have protocols the average person doesn't use; things like VPN or NDISWAN. You may want to contact your ISP to find out exactly which protocols you can safely remove. Often times network game problems are resolved by something as simple as removing unused adapters and protocols.

Make sure you have TCP/IP bound to only your Dial-up Adapter if you are trying to connect to the internet via dial-up modem. Sometimes simply rebooting your computer or power cycling the external modem can resolve this issue. Make sure you have the network setting set correctly in the game. 1) Start the game 2) Click on Multiplayer. 3) Ensure the right Connection Type is selected for your internet or LAN.

If you are on a dynamic IP connection try renewing your IP address. Windows 9x/ME 1) Click Start then Run. 2) At the prompt type WINIPCFG. 3) Once in the IP configuration screen, click Release All. 4) Click Renew All.

Windows NT/2000/XP 1) First launch the Command Prompt. 2) At the command line type "IPCONFIG /RENEW"."

Having the same tbl. finding servers... I can delete the "servercache.dat" file, start RTCW and sometimes my server list will rebuild. In the RTCW Console I use folowing cmd to connect: "connect 216.240.151.120:27962" (BeetleJz LoS3 Tram) OR Install The "All-Seeing Eye", it's free & works great. www.udpsoft.com/eye

Have Fun,

We have been having the same problem with the WildWest servers. Sometime the master server is there, sometimes it isn't. I have saves a copy of my servercache.dat file that was created on a day when the server was up. I just copy that file over top of the existing one, but DONT click on Get New List and it works fine.

Use All Seeing Eye, you will be much happier with it, plus you can see which players are on the servers, not just if the servers are there or not. Iggy

When I press get new list now I get 4 server (1 is filterd)

3 are normal pub servers and 1 of them is a some "test" server. Yesterday I only got the test server. Maybe the are testing a new master server. Thats the only thing I can think of.

Here's the answer: Get pathfinder :http://www.atombrenner.de/pathfinder/pathfinder_rtcw.zip(it's only 300 kb or so and you don't have to install it on your computer, just put it somewhere, it's best if you put in RTCW main folder and create a shortcut) Run the program. you'll see the following: attachment.php?attachmentid=20043 Click on the three dots next to: "query master". (I put a red circle around it) then enter the following Ip address as masterserver address: 192.246.40.56:27950 Now click on query master and you'll see al RTCW servers, then double-click on a server and your RTCW will automatically startup and join the server. This is the solution because ID software has more than one masterserver and if you use the other one (which doesn't cause problems you WILL see all servers) I haven't found a way yet to enter the different masterserver Ip address in RTCW menu (and I'm not sure if there IS a way to enter it in RTCW menu), but maybe someone on these forums knows ;) ,+medic+Goa.Johnson(nl) ------> www.wolfenstein.nl/rtcwgame/servers for server list

I saw that the command sv_master1 contains the "normal master server"

When changing it to 192.246.40.56:27950 or master3.idsoftware.com it still shows to few servers that I get with the master server.

I think the command is for servers only. When making a server it will report to the adres(ses) in that command. : sv_master1 to 5 (I checked there is no cl_master 1)

http://www.atombrenner.de/pathfinder.htm -> for all pathfinder versions :)

Allright i found a way to change the Ip adres of the ingame server browser (though I have not tested yet if it works, I just heard it on a other forum ;) )

Go to: in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts:

192.246.40.56 wolfmaster.idsoftware.com there you can chenge it, though you should put it back when the original problems with the master server are solved (though i doubt IF they will be solved ;))
