Okay the main problem with faction wars is the reward...Both logic and convenience based. Okay so I go down a tunnel for 20 mins flood it and get out and i get 10k, yet I completely eliminate duties enemies, freedom, capped every camp, and main base and I get 3.5 k total, while my weapon and armor repairs combined after it all total up to 5.3k??? so i spent an hour and a half to lose 1.8k? The duty leader doesn't even recognize what I did, it give sme the same texts as it did wen i first joined, not even a thanks for defeating our #1 enemy in the zone? Not even lowering the price on their 20k and 25k costing armors or anything???
Your complaint is a big problem here and faction wars needs some major fixing because of one thing:'
There aren't any actual wars. You know why?? Because nobody attacks each other, faction wars take a loooong time to commence, and enemies just spawn on your point. They don't come from their base they just spawn straight on the point. So yes we need faction wars to happen 10x more then it happens now.
The other thing is there is no motivation to really do any of it. You get plenty of junk by killing off enemies & scrounging without going out of your way to exterminate a faction. Not only that, if you join a faction too early in the game, you end up making your journey through the zone more difficult. It's not as if you pick up extra XP's by scoring extra kills - and you don't have a reputation that goes up with kills either. So really...aside from killing whatever happens to be attacking you at that moment, there isn't any motivation to fire a single shot. It's kind of funny...because Clear Skies doesn't seem to have as strong of a survival or stealth component as SoC - and yet it also seems to discourage random killing as well. Ultimately participating in the faction wars takes time away from your primary target & can cause problems. More than anything else, the plot of the game is a pursuit of a guy through the zone. All you really know is that if you don't find him & catch him before he gets there bad things are going to happen. It's hard to imagine chasing a man through a radioactive wilderness, knowing that failing to catch him would cause a major disaster - and then STOPPING every 5 minutes to rescue kittens in trees, help old ladies cross the street, and participate in a pointless battle between 2 groups of idiots who are equally clueless about what's really going on behind the scenes. For me...Scar's trip through the zones is a political commentary on society. You pass through various territories, whose inhabitants are fighting piddly battles over meager resources...and meanwhile the world is coming to end all around them but they're too preoccupied to notice. The only thing that really motivates you to go out of your way is upgrading your equipment - and even that is artificial. They seemed to make weapons weaker & less accurate just to give you a reason to upgrade. If everything worked the way it did in SoC, you could simply run through the game scrounging guns off of whoever you kill...and it wouldn't matter. I think that's one of the reasons why alot of people are disappointed with Clear Skies. It's not the glitches & shut-downs - that was a problem with the original game. The real problem is they've stripped down alot of the elements of the first game, and made one of the main focal points this war between factions - and then failed to make it a factor in the plot. It would be different if you were forced to join a faction, and that choice made a big impact on the end of the story.
Thing is when i joined freedom i felt like "hell yeh! lets kick those duty into space!" but soon the harsh reality sank in that im the only one who can hold a gun int his hands in all the damn faction! Every time i take a post and leave it with 5 freedom guys, a squad of dutyiers come along and literally ass-rape the lot! Wtf? Why are freedom so ganked? Also, i dont know is it because i still havent finished the main quest or what but i cant seem to wipe out duty! I kill EVRY SINGLE duty prick in Agroprom except the boss, because he is invincible (wtf?! a whole clip of black kite and a couple of nades doesnt tickle him?) and thats it. What next? I go out of duty base and 2 mins later its full of duty rats again!!! How?!
drives me nuts too. cleaned out the Duty base 3 times now. and i walk out of the base turn around and there are 40 guys in there again! no joke!
i REALLY enjoyed SOC and played it nearly every day after i got it untill i got CS...
these fools need to realize what a steaming pile they let go out he door and gvei us a MASSIVE patch to fix this trud.
Duty has better weapons and armor. The Dragunovs need to be strengthened. Freedom also could use some better padding and weapons better than the LR 300.
Although only very few Dutiers use the Groza or RPD (they tend to stay at the base instead), Freedom just cant seem to hold their own.
As a follow-up....I went through the whole game without joining any faction whatsoever. It's odd that you're listed as a Mercenary - and yet the Mercs are neutral to you. Oddness. Also...(spoiler)
You should be given special items that you cannot find anywhere else.. like weapons as reward. This game was nowhere near half complete for release. I'm very disappointed. On the box they elaborate about faction wars, and as a previous poster says, there ISN'T any faction wars, its hardly any different from SHOC. Its just a couple of random skirmishes that spark off from nothing.. and faction leaders saying "oh i want you to go and kill the other faction"......... WOW how fun. The whole game is like a half done project.. they didnt even give us half of the things that were in the original, like sound and sight bar so you know if you're heard/seen.. the PDA is really simple and lacks features.. even some of the useful ones that were in the original. God even the game manual was rubbish. I still cannot believe they expected us to check our inventory to see how much stamina we have left -.- Gah I could go on.. but its no use. We have all been conned into buying this terrible game. Its sad because it could be one of the greatest games of all time, but they just want quick money for a quickly done product.

^^^ This. Oh well. Played the game & will probably run through again just for fun if I get bored & feel like killing enemies with modded weapons & armor. I'm on to Mass Effect now...and after that Fallout 3. Hopefully in the meantime some new content comes out & some of these kinks get worked out.
