our most hated review site's finally give CS a number. 7.0/10 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky for PC Review - PC S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky Review strange the review sounds more positive than the score itself. x-play gave it a 3/5.

Yeah I wa just about to comment on XPlay. They seemed to really hate it lol. Fair comments, but it's like they went out of their way to say "it's shit, don't buy it". Which just isn't true. It is bugged to hell, but patches are fixing it.

I love it, and STALKER will continue to be my favourite game.

Acutally...Clear Sky runs WAY BETTER for me than SoC. SoC forces my computer to do a restart when I exit the game, and sometimes when I switch zones. I think it's because I'm running Windows XP 64-bit edition, and it chokes on the drivers. Clear Sky, from that standpoint, is running MUCH more smoothly & cleanly on my system. And it looks better & sounds better on my system. So in my particular situation Clear Sky wins. However....Clear Sky so far has had a stupid plot, with alot of pointless attempts by the game developers to kill you for no other reason than you were foolish enough to pay them money for their game. - Dumping you out in Cordon right in front of a military base with a machine gun pointed at you when all you have is crappy starter-level weapons & armor. - Getting mugged not once, but TWICE (!!!!!!) in Garbage by Bandits. One of which is completely unavoidable, because it's a cut screen event. I'm sure there's more....but I can see why alot of ppl are annoyed.

Yeah khemeher a military outpost inside a hostile place as the zone with so many people attacking them wouldn't have a machine gun.

you can avoid the scripted mugging too if you dump all of your stuff first. And I don't normally have a ton of cash anyways when I get mugged so I'm just out 1000 rubles.

Sounds like you just want an easy game.

anyways the gamespot review is bullshit and is only surprised with Adam Sesslers idiotic remarks about clear sky.

Everyone knows exactly how bullshit "popular" game reviewers are so I have nothing else to explain.

That would be a valid point if any of the other bases in the game had fixed machine gun emplacements. Duty & Freedom both can afford super-high tech weaponry, and yet somehow only the military gets a machine gun emplacement? It's not that I want an easy game...I just think it would be more fun to have the option to evade/engage a team of soldiers rather than be mowed down by a God Gun the first time I take 10 steps into a new area after only having played the game for 15 minutes.

Pros: Clear Sky runs much better and cleaner on my comp than SoC. Loading times are tolerable, game looks great with a decent framerate (Static lighting, but High quality with 1600x1050 resolution, gonna try Maximum quality next time). Also, the random spikes of lag are almost entirely gone.

Cons: Key word was random. However, constant lag spikes are a major annoyance. Why in the hell am I getting 2-4 second lag spikes with every body or stash I check? Since I'm quite the scavenger, I'm getting it worse than I ever did in SoC. I hope the patch due within the next few days solves this.

X-Play and most other game review sites suck. Okay, X-Box live Gears, Halo, all that crap they love is stupid and they get so gay with the developers for the games. There is no other game with the gameplay experience and atmosphere of STALKER. Most game reviews are written by people who tell you they raped your mom on X-box live. I give stalker a 8.5 because of the bugs and I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of totally new areas to explore. Consoles SUCK.

Well I just discovered that metacritic is useless. They are using sites that have a review written by players! They get the same statistical weighting as the professionals, so I could say I loved CS to death and give it a 10/10 and that would raise the average metacritic score by about .5. Heck, they could be part of the development team posting great scores for crap games! No, I am not saying that CS is a crap game (Mercenaries 2 is). =p

Www.gamerankings.com is the best that I can find. Even they have some problems like the site Worth Playing which will not even give you the name of the reviewer. They also claim that the game did not crash once on an unpatched version of CS! We should demand that they release that version to us immediately! :smack:

I find it curious that most magazine and website reviews that gave it s good score (7.8+) failed to have any CTDs, or mention them. That either means that they had a different version, they were reviewing the demo, or they did not play anything at all. I have seen one review that was nearly identical to a press release from a game company two weeks before the game hit the shelves. I do not trust most, but look for the differences between them to get a good idea of what the game is like.

Heck there were three big sites that gave Avencast: Rise of the Mage an 8+/10 and the thing was crap (6/10) if you are over 12 years old.

I think CS is worth about the 75% that gamerankings has for it, since that is the Vanilla version and not after the 5th patch. Once we get modding this thing back into being the Zone (put some scary back in it), it would probably jump to 90%. Too bad the CTDs are still happening with 1.05 though... :bawl:

As for the Gun Emplacement Gamespot did nail it

Spoiler: Show
These issues are most prevalent in two frustrating sequences that bottleneck progress in the first half of the game. In one, you emerge into a new area only to find yourself under attack from a nearby military installation. You're meant to run, but the eagle-eyed soldiers riddle you with bullets time and time again as you die and reload, wondering what the secret for escape is. In another, you must take potshots at enemies from behind a bus while dodging multiple grenades at once. Furthermore, this battle takes place a few feet from an exit point to another region; should you accidentally trigger it, your location will be reset to a few feet away, potentially on top of a grenade.

If you did not have the same problem, then you should disable your Invulnerability! Having to cheat is not fun.
