within my first two days of playing, I had 2 CTD's. Thats it! My first was walking into an electrical anomaly at the swamps, my 2nd I don't remember.
Now, I get one every 5 minutes... Seriously, WTF?
Its unplayable... moving around a short bit only to CTD, reload, try again, save, crash, reload try again... its re-tar-ded
Is there a known problem for retardation in video games? I mean, is there a fix or something that would make the game CTD less...

Some general questions: 1) Have you patched, modded, or altered any of the files? If so, that may be your problem. 2) How long have you been playing the game? I'm finding that the game very quickly defragments my hard drive - so much so that in just a couple days it noticeably slows down the game. You might be getting lock-ups because of file fragmentation. I've taken to leaving my machine on overnight & running defrags while I sleep. You might try running a registry cleaner and/or run disk check to check for bad sectors. If it's bad enough, you may have to uninstall/delete/reinstall/patch/etc.
Game was fully patched to 1.5.04 after purchase. (US Retail version) I have "installed" mods, though I wouldn't really call that an install...
Edited weapon values/functions, edited NPC Bounding boxes, weapon skins/retextures, edited graphics (Better Lighting and FPS/DoF user.ltx Extreme Graphics preset)
The only things that HAD caused me major issues was the US Translation of Russian AMK Sleeping bag (Cause game to FAIL to progress through cutscenes)
And Bad_Motha's w_beretta.ltx for full auto beretta... dunno why it was crashing my game (Works fine for everyone else :uhm:), because I modified another pistol do be full auto (Colt 1911) and it works fine.
I'm doing defrag now, its 61% done, its been about 2 and a half hours, hopefully this cleans things up a bit? I'm doing it on C Drive where my game is installed... I have another HD that I store stuff on, do I NEED to defrag that one too? I just changed my antivirus provider from AVG to Avast (because AVG started to memory leak, and failed to stop keyloggers/destructive malicious script)
And my PC KEPT FREEZING UP when windows Auto update was trying to download SP3 !!!!!! Total freeze like 6 times, I was PISSED. I downloaded a regedit file/.batch installer (From microsoft) that stopped SP3 and other updates?? from being downloaded/installed. Computers been back to normal since. Except Clear Skies random CTD... Often.
Hope this defrag helps.
Well you definitely have some shit going on inside your machine. But based on your post, you definitely have a few things to look at in terms of the root cause for your crashes. One thing that I learned a long time ago when you're troubleshooting a system is to change one thing at a time. That way if you have a change, you have a better idea where the cause lays.
wow it went from 61% defrag to done in 13 minutes, is that normal?... should I restart my PC or leave it running before I try Clear Skies?
My 2nd drive after analyze said it didn't have to be defragmented.
I had the same prob w/ CTD's. I was stuck in Cordon @ the Stalker camp and it would CTD seconds after I restarted a saved game. This went on & on till I did the following. What I did, and this might not sound pleasent to some due to how far into game you are, was a complete uninstall and every folder associated w/ it. Then perform a disk clean & defrag. CCleaner CCleaner - Home if you have it helps pretty good too. Go to the Admin Services in the Control Panel and disable all non-critical processes, do some research on which ones to disable, some processes will vary from rig to rig. Check your Task Manager & monitor the amount of resources your freeing up in the memory in the Performance Tab. You'll see a significant drop in mem usage if you disable un-needed processes. If you have a gaming only rig this is pretty much straight foward but if you game & do office type of task you definately must know which ones to shut down/disable. And do the obvious....install the latest drivers for: *GPU *Sound Card *BIOS - Striker "not another F**up BIOS" Extreme users beware, install v1603,:rofl:I resemble this remark. Time for a new M/B. v.1603 is doing OK so far. Also as a sidenote, do a Start, Run & type msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab & "Uncheck" all the B.S. programs that don't need to be running when you bootup & they don't need to be running in the background hogging up anymore resources than necessary. If in doubt what those programs are, Google them. Do a little bit of :deal: and you can pratically run your rig on very little resources and have the important resources for playing CTD free Stalker CS or any other high end game for that matter. These steps work for my rig - others may not have the same results.
