Hey guys, i just found out that my computer DOSENT meet the minimum spec :bawl:
But the only thing letting me down is my CPU i found this CPU on newegg.com and it looks decent. Any ways im spending 200 pounds tops, im not budging from that point. If you know of a better CPU under 200 then can you let me know?
Intel Quad Q6600
I would recommend you a E8400. It's a bit more expensive but more reliable IMO. Plus if you know how to overclock, you can easily get 4Ghz on air (7700-Cu cooling)
I'm running one and can easily meet the DX10 (nearly) max graphs. Check it out here.
If your not going to overclock, then the extra 30 bucks is not worth it.
NB!! If your buying a quad-core cpu JUST for gaming then its wasted money, cause games (at best) use 2 cores, just like stalker CS btw.
I would recomend one, but with out knowing what you got makes it impossable. exsample: a main board with a celuron CPU as default is NOT compatable to use a pent or AMD CPU. Then the next is what kind of socket is on the board for the CPU, socket A for a socket A pin pent CPU will not fit a socket 64x bit what ever for a socket 64x whatever pin pent CPU...if it sounds confusing then take it to a Computer tech and ask him, that would be better than buying a CPU that dosen't fit the socket muchless won't work..
i m using a Intel Core 2 DUo E6850, ASUS HD3870 graphic card, 4GB of RAM, and the game runs like shit. I have to put everything to medium and still i often have fps drops depending of my location. But the case is that i m using VISTA and DX10. Thats the problem in my opinion.....

Yeah I was gonna say the same but since he's inquiring about an AM2 socket, I'll assume thats the type of board he has.
I have the Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6ghz Dual Core CPU, Gigabyte GA-M570-SLI-S4 motherboard, nVidia 9800GTX card, 4GB Ram, and the game is maxed out with rarely a hiccup
I would run the game first before upgrading. I'm using all these machines... One with Nforce 3, 754 socket AMD Athlon64 3200 @ 2.4Ghz. One with Nforce 410 / GF6100 with 939 socket AMD Athlon64 X2 3200 @ 2.2Ghz. One with Nforce 430 / GF6150 with AM2 socket AMD Athlon64 X2 3400 @ 2.5Ghz. All run CS just fine on Medium / 1024x768. This machine here I have CS running on Maxed visual settings @ 1280x1024 Nforce 570 SLI, AM2 socket AMD Athlon64 X2 5400 @ 3.2Ghz.
if i switch Vista to old fashioned XP how much smoother the game will become?

This one makes sense because I have heard that even though we were promised support for quad the game is only using one core. I have a Q6600 which equates to 2.4Ghz a core (which is extremely good value for money), 4GB Corsair Dominator, P5N32-E Sli+ Mobo, 8800Ultra, Vista Ultimate 32bit, 150Gb WD Raptor. I run the game on DX9 because it just can't stop crashing on DX10. But with all this power I have to put some settings back a bit because of the cores issue, so you see a 5200+ will give you a single core of 2.6GHz which will do the business.
