From your first impressions, do you think that Clear Sky is not as clear as it should be? Does it have too much bugs? Is it too hard to play? Is it unfinished in any way? ...
Games will always have bugs, wait for the patches.
I don't think it's a failure.
No, i don't think it is a failure, i waited for Chernobyl for years just to play it, it had problems but OL made it as it should be. I think that will happen to the CS, it will get better with time. It is a great game nevertheless all the bugs and the lack of finishing and polishing. I vote No.4 ... it has great potentials.
If it wasn't for the bugs it would be a good game.
Do not forget that this is nowhere close to a finished product. Its polished, but the job's only half done. It took SoC until the 1.04 patch that we mostly now use that the game was satisfactory enough for the mod community. This game needs patches and it needs them BADLY (and soon). I do believe that releasing it upon all of Russia as a thinly veiled Beta test was a cheap, effective, and really low-blow method to address what needs improvement.
Even so, its clear that even in the end, its gonna be the mod community that Stalker is known for once again. Its a shame that CS is too linear for the tastes of many. What this game needs before anything else is a Freeplay mod, and fast. The sooner more modders can get the game and see which points cannot be returned to (Limansk??!), the better. Even if the game's ending may not make sense for Scar to continue on, I think it should be made to let the game carry on afterwards.
Really, the game's atmosphere has unlimited potential in the modder's hands. The only thing that might hurt in the long run is if they never release an SDK. From what I understand, if there's any hope to merge the levels of SoC & CS together, we need that kit.
Merging two games into one will definetely overshadow the lack of freeplay that let's say fallout or morrowind had. It would become a great world. Altough i remember why i fell "in love" when i saw stalker demo-play video show for the first time. 1. The atmosphere that i could feel trough my monitor 2. The gameplay zone like no other (xcept fallout but that is another story) 3. The promise of a 45km"2 zone playable. The last one is the only reason for my dissappointment. But i forgave it and continued playing, then i realized the game has a lot of bugs, and then i stopped playing. Until a month ago. I waited till OL 2.2 and then i said - this is a game that i dreamed of. But if only for god's sake it had freeplay... it is a shame actually, i think we all realize the potential, but i can't understand why couldn't the designers do the same? Deadlines? That is no excuse to make your work sloppy. I believe that the game's true life begins and ends with the modding community, and i hope Stalker's life will never end. P.S. i do not want to believe that someone will actually poll te first two selections (it is there just for the purpose of the illusion of free choice and for "evil-meaners"), and if someone does; the Tiger will get to him - so "evil-meaners" - remember - death awaits in the dark!
Once that SDK comes out I will be satisfied with STALKER as a whole. When Clear sky get smerged with ShoC (Make sure to need both games just to avoid copyright infringement). Then the zone will be complete and I will live forever in it.
I just think that for the most part, Clear Sky should have included not only new places but every places that was included on the map for Chernobyl. Didn't they still leave out a temple city? And what about the Dead City?
I knew they'd be cutting out 50% of the map, but I didn't expect them to cut out important areas such as the bar, or Pripyat!
Oh man, I'm disappointed.
I def. will miss BARKEEP and the great sniping experience @ Pripyat! *crawls into fetal possition & cries*
