I keep wondering WHY did they release it in the first place? Deadlines? The deadlines were way over when ShOC was released. Budget? A community of five men managed to rebuild some games without almost any budget, like TA Spring or Jagged Alliance with Bearpit, the games are old decades and are still alive. From scratch. And are better then their predecessors. Getting Money? The sale of CS is not so great at the moment, so it is not about money! And what is it then when they released a (believe it or not) a half-finished game? It is easier to rebuild the whole game engine than to fix the old one - as my people would say; "Bolje spriječiti nego liječiti" - "It is better to prevent it in the begining, than to cure it afterwards." And i wonder, why do they leave to the community to solve their mashup afterwards! They say that they listen to the community's wishes - if so - why are there still bugs that were fixed ages ago - from ShOC to CS... they just ported the bugs wwithout any fixes. And about their DX10 features? Well, it works for me without crashing all the time, because i got the Vista and DX10 on my laptop and a graphics card that certainly supports DX10 - but the game was not built only for those like me! There are people who don't have computers like me - and what about them? Static lightning and DX9 features? It reminds me of an old communist motto; "We are all equal - except, some are more equal then others." And i shouldn't even talk about beta testing! Most games release beta demos for people to say what is bad and what is good - but no, CS didn't even have a beta testing (and if there was any, it definetely didn't work well). ! What we call "pull my nose" is the tactic of GSC - patches? I lost faith in their patches long time ago, remember Military Warehouses and Agroprom underground? They officially claimed it was solved - how? they said; THE LEADER OF DUTY SAYS THAT YOU SHOULD NOT ATTACK THE MILHOUSES WITH SKULL! SO DON'T! -- That is their "way" of solving bugs? WTF?!! A new game is out - CS - and the old one has not been fixed yet! What the hell? I do love the Stalker game, but i think i will wait for some time before playing it again. No, i REALLY LOVE the game. But all the waiting - ...i am not sure if it was just worth the time. About the SDK, if it ever comes out - i just hope that it won't be as fu... as the game. Sorry for the long post, i hope someone will make it clearer for me - why is the game as it is? Or maybe it will remain shrouded in mystery for ever.

well I finished this game. I don't think its a faliure, The story line fits in perfact.

After all we heard about how strelok almost made it but didn't, here we found out he was captured. but you also find out the monolith was waiting for you BECAUSE you almost made it. so since The leathal security force of the zone don't take prisonors, how was he stopped? here we find out why. For a group of sceintist who is first time trying to get answares I can see how this leads the way it dose..how ever... I think all enemy engagement is ridiculs. your for ever out match, out gun, out powered. It takes for ever to take some one down. The hand gun dosent centerd when useing aim ( I never used cross hair in SOC ). when in a attack group, the entire enemy goes after you and your group is eather shooting and not hitting anything or they are all dead. some enemy targets will never die even when you flank them cause they are not there for you to kill. you have to watch out for super soilders with super guns cause they can see you through any brush, any tree, any rock, and they are a perfact shot with no flaws, and can shoot through trees and rocks and kill ya quick. The stopping monster requiers over 50 ammo from you and your team to take it down. if you don't have your team, carry over 1ooo in amo and expect of 15 mins of running and shooting. Blood suckers don't cloak, they phase out, so when shooting them during a phase out is a waste of ammo and time, bullets can't hit them. The only time is when they phase in, and that is like when they De-cloak is SOC, to attack. carry lots of med and bandages. if not you will die in a couple of seconds. You can buy the strongest suit and powerfull gun. a bandit in a leather jack will requier just as much hits as if he had a heaver suit, and his gun maybe a weaker one but it preformes way better than any you carry, and shoots through stuff as well. when you buy or repair your suit, expected it to be trash in a encounter right after you leave the trading post. and if this all sound too far fetch that how would a stalker game play with ridiculs settings, then you haven't played Clear Sky yet. I beaten SOC without mods, in stalker mode and no cross hair. I had to get a trader mod and a weight mod to beat CS. oh yeah, your guy is forever tired....mainly when you are getting jumped or in a situation that would get you killed. exsample: you jump on rocks all day, suddenly a pack of dogs close in, for some reason you can't jump onto the rock and now your too exhausted to move..you die game over.. They realy need to re-adjust their enemy engadment values as well in genarle. everything else in the game is cool..

oh ya, when you throw granades, just throw them at yourself, cause everyone else can out run your throw, they all seem to know ahead of time, there is no ambushing... no suprise attacks, no edge, well for them not you no matter who...

According to them they have sold over 2 million copies, so it is all about the money. A low estimate would be about $10 profit / sale, so $20 Million so far without NA sales, means that they made a lot of money for something that defective. Since their project leader got sacked, they are not very happy about it either.

As for the SDK they have said that they will not be releasing it, so if you have seen something to the contrary please post a link. It could mean the difference between me staying and modding CS and me leaving to mod Fallout 3.

Sorry, my bad. I mistook Supernatur4ls comment about the GSC CS site. He really said that they had sold 2M copies of SOC not CS .:uhoh:

I thought it was a little suspicious, but I figured that the Beta test copies were sold cheaply. I have looked but found no actual numbers on the sales for CS, so it must be pretty low. Deep Silver should be spinning it on their page, saying something like "over 100K sold in first 10 days of intial release in Western Europe alone" or something like that. Their press page is strangely missing any reference to sales numbers.

Oh, well, I have read some good posts about the latest patch making it somewhat more stable. Of course since GSC has been down for the last three days, I expect to find out that they have created new and interesting ways to CTD. :banghead:

Obviously you didn't read the fine print... "GSC Game World announces its S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has sold 1 million copies worldwide and 1 million licensed copies in ex-USSR countries." This is speaking of the sales of the first game, not CS.

It's pretty terrible to be honest. I haven't encountered any serious bugs yet, but overall I'm just not impressed. It plays more like a total conversion mod or expansion than a full game.

But given how good the mods for SoC made the game, I'm sure the same will happen for CS.

People use the term ex-USSR alot these days. Well it's appropriate, alot of those countries who are independent now, used be part of the former Soviet Union, yeah so what. If you ask alot of Russians these days, alot will say it's no different now with Puton then it was back in the USSR days. They still run the country in the same ol' fashion. They hate Puton over there as much as people here hate Bush.
