I've just gotten to Yantar, its the middle of the night, I help fight off about a dozen zombies.
I get the quest to find the PDA, I get it off the dead stalker while narrowly surviving the horde of Chernobyl dog ghosts, again in the pitch dark (and I can't find the real dog ANYWHERE).
While I fight the dogs, the scientists come under attack, and by the time I get there, all the stalkers are dead and there are about 10 zombies inside the fence.
So grenades are useless because I can't see the zombies and they take a ton more body damage, every time I try to take a shot at them I take fire from 7+ automatic rifles and either die or use up all my medkits. What the hell am I supposed to do?
Christ, since this is a prequel I expected the Yantar base to be in good repair with no damn holes in the fence everywhere, and maybe floodlights THAT ACTUALLY WORK? The zombie attacks seem to come in 2-3 groups of 5, and GSG thought that having 5 NPC stalkers would be an adequate defence against that?
And it's really awesome when supposedly brain dead zombies can see me in the dark and hit me with perfect accuracy.
Edit: Sorry, for some reason my paragraphs are all getting condensed when I post...
use AP ammo against zombies, and id suggest reloading your save as that can help with locating the main psuedodog ( it can bug out and hang around in that heavy psy area preventing you for getting to kill it)
Listen stalker this is what you do, get on top the lab and clear the grounds from a high advantage point or re-start the map...the PDA is on a dead stalker behind the factory. Look at the pda, you would think its inside but its not its behind it.go northwest of the swamp and to the north you will come across the bodies at a camp behind the yantar factory. One of them has it...oh yeah stay sharpe or your'll end up like poor ol Otter...heh,heh..know what I mean?...
I already finished this game... thats how I know....
Also since you're in the dark and it's harder to find your targets and such. Use the binoculars from time to time, as it will point them out to you. Least you'll have an idea of where they're all crowded at. Plus now that you've seen what happens. Stay with the Stalker and protect them before going to grab the PDA. It most likely will play out a little different anyways after you load up your saved game. Good luck :D Oh yeah the high vantage point is a must. Try to use AP round if you don't have them, try to get head shots on Zombies as they are harder to kill then regular NPCs.
Thanks for the tips guys. I don't know if its just me, but this game is a whole lot harder than SoC. In the first one I wouldn't think twice about engaging 20+ zombies, but its like these guys were birthed by Chuck Norris or something. I have about 100 rounds of AP 5.56 ammo, but I'm pretty sure I'll need more. Problem is that I haven't found anyone selling it and my cash levels are low. (Btw I'm using a scoped LR300 with +40%accuracy and -50% recoil, too bad the bullet deviation is so off that it's a 1/5 chance of scoring a headshot) I think I may have to reload from the Agropom area and wait for the sun to come up before going to Yantar, as the flashlight is useless and fighting is retarded when you're forced to navigate by the minimap. Incidentally, is there a way to pass the in-game hours quickly? Sometimes when I saved a game, it seemed like the day turned into afternoon, but I'm not sure.
Get a better flashlight file and the sleeping bag mod :D Cheers!
once you have finished helping freedom with the main questline in dark valley Asshot sells a large amount of AP 5.56mm ammo (600-720 iirc) on each visit.
More should be aviable from the sakarovh in yantar as well. another way to collect ap ammo is pick up every single weapon you find and unload the ammo. you'll be amazed at the ammo you can get from doing that.
We've been saying this... trust me, most people playing have had to sell ammo so they aren't carrying 1,000 buckshot ~ 1,000 9x19 ~ 1,000 5.45x39 etc. Unloading the guns, LOL we did do this in SOC right? Anyways yeah, no problem THYCO, glad to see your working your way through Yantar.
no need to get all worked up, im just trying to help. and i would expect people to be selling the ammo that they dont need. i would not expect people to sell ammo that is actually needed.
and as said in other posts AP ammo is needed much more in this game than in SoC because almost all human npcs have body armour. In fact the best way to clear the zombies in yantar is to get them grouped up and just spray a full mag of AP ammo into the group. Down they all go. Non AP ammo requires you go for head shots only.
