Hi all. Im new in stalker modding, but i wana learn :D. Im tryin to compile few mods and to import some stuff but i cant find out where is destination for name and description for stuff. I know its normaly in \gamedata\configs\text\ with name st_items_outfit for armors and masks. My question is? Is it possible to see in .LTX file, not only string name for name and description, but in wich file it should bee written or is it in some other file. I have seen from other mods like OL, or others that they make they own XML for description. Tnx.

sorry, i don't really understand your question, but if you want to search for words or strings inside a bunch of files (to see where those things have been put), AgentRansack is a great tool for that. Agent Ransack - home

Welcome to the wild wild west of modding. Its fun without an SDK, ...isn't it? Just kidding.

It ends up referenced over several files and that depends on what the item is or does for what kind of values and properties need to be assigned to it and where so that it may properly work in the game.

smrtphoneusr has a good idea and Ransack will help but not with everything such as NPC's, creatures, and or actions such as spawns.

Ransack will find most things and save a ton of time.

Tnx guys its a great toll. But i found perfect example for my question. I have found a armor in one MOD but author has forgot for description. And now i have searched and i try to put description in st_items_outfit. Normaly armor and helmets are there but it wont work. That mod dont have some extra XMLs like big mods but i cant to find in wich file should i place description so game will accept. How can i see in this case where is destination for that armors description. I have tryed with Ransack with armors string but in none of XMLs have it. I hope its not tooooo complicated :D. Tnx

Your suit should be included in, ...misc\outfit.ltx

Hint: Check the system.ltx file (main game file) for its references and it will help you hunt down the files you'll need to reference your item to. That should be the top file in the tree of files that need your item's reference. Work from the top down and look for references to other files as you go then check out those files for if they need a reference or not until you get to the file you stated in your first post on this thread.

I think you said yours was a unique homegrown outfit (modder developed) then you should just add a reference to your file in the outfit.ltx file and the game should see it.

Also, ...I recommend Notepad++ for editing and creating files for this game. http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/files/notepad%2B%2B%20releases%20binary/

One last thing, ...read this thread because what you are trying to do is discussed in it.

Eggchen goes into detail about modding his outfits and their reference files.
